Desire/Acquire: Restoration Hardware Mayfair Steamer Cube

CasaSugar Community member Skfitzsimons is on the hunt for a more affordable version of the Restoration Hardware Mayfair Steamer Cube ($995). "It would be a perfect bedside table, but it's way pricey," she says. I actually do know of a few more steamer trunk-inspired cube side tables that are easier on the wallet. Want to see them?

The Pottery Barn Expedition Cube ($700) is upholstered with aniline-dyed top-grain leather and opens from the top for storage.

The World Market Steamer Trunk End Table ($200) is made of medium density fiberboard with veneer and walnut finish, and also opens for storage.

The Overstock Embossed Pattern Steamer Trunk ($100) is made of rich brown China hardwood, and also opens for storage.

Like Ellenora, I love the $100 one from Overstock. It's bigger and more substantial. Would look nice at the end of the bed or beside it. I think the RestorHard trunk is way overpriced for its size and what it's made of. Another suggestion might be to go to vintage/secondhand stores or garage sales and get a real steamer trunk and clean it up.

Oh, I wasn't very clear. I wouldn't even be able to get to the store without a car; the one nearest me isn't accessible by public transportation. :( It's times like these when I wish I had a car, but I don't miss the expense!

The Home Goods in NJ deliver (for a fee), maybe look into that? Hope you get the trunk you want :)

Thanks for the tip, Cathleen. Unfortunately, I don't have a car (I take public transportation), so I don't make it out to Home Goods very often. I'll be sure to go there the next time I get a Zip Car, though!

So . . . if you are craving the restoration hardware one, I have seen some that are very similar at home goods, keep your eyes peeled and you might get lucky. They have the same metal siding and leather details at a 1/4 the price

I, too, have been craving the Restoration Hardware one. The Pottery Barn one looks nice, but I think I'm going to save up for the Restoration Hardware one because I like the drawers. I already have enough storage that opens only at the top; the things I need to store are every day type things, so it would be a pain to have to take off whatever I have on top of the trunk every day. Good finds, though! If you didn't want to put anything on top of it, the ones you found would be great blanket storage for a living room.
