Do You Enjoy Hosting Guests in Your Home?

Knock, knock. They're heeeere. When someone calls to tell me they're coming to town, I immediately put it on my calendar, look for fun things to do, and make dinner reservations. Since I'm fortunate enough to have a guest room, I offer it up whenever I can to close friends and family. On the opposite end of the spectrum are folks like my dad, who can't handle hosting guests or even being a visitor himself. A hotel down the street suits him just fine — it has ice buckets and he can run around in his boxers without fear of flashing someone. I, however, like to leave my front door open and fresh pressed linens. What are your thoughts on hosting house guests?

I'm not the world's savviest hostess or whatever but, I actually do enjoy having people over. Especially when they're close family/friends. Of course, sometimes it can be uncomfortable but overall, it's what you make of it. It can be very fun.

I'm not the biggest fan. Our guest room isn't very cute, because we're in our apartment temporarily and I didn't feel the need to spend money we don't really have on it. But there is a bed and lamps and such. And also, I just moved to a new city so I'm not too terribly sure of things to do and where to take people. It kind of just stresses me out. Since my boyfriend and I just moved out here (and we're the first of either family to move out of state), we've had a few visitors and will be getting more over the summer. I guess I have to get used to it!

I love hosting guests at my home - parties, weekends, you name it! Having guests provides a perfect excuse to try fun/cute little touches that surprise and delight my friends and family. I like to put out slippers, fresh flowers and a hand-written note to welcome my guests. Add to that something unexpected (special chocolate, homemade cookies) and guest feel like they are welcome and ready to relax and enjoy!

i feel really awkward when people come over.. i don't know how to relax.. we have a beautiful house, and i made a really cute guest room, but honestly, i just like to be home alone with my husband and our kitties.. i think i'm a shut-in.

I love having guests! I highly recommend couchsurfing.com for people who enjoy hosting or staying with others. I always get interesting guests. The last one was a polite ex soldier who was on his way to another state to get his scuba license. He said we are welcome to stay with him in Hawaii. Before that I had an Australian riding a motorcycle from Texas to Alaska. He made a delicious watermelon, mint and feta salad for dinner. When I was sick I hosted a delightful girl fresh out of college. We hit it off so well we're still friends, and she's coming to my wedding next month. Last but definitely not least, there's my fiance, whom I met when he was on a cross country motorcycle trip and crashed on my sofa. Opening my home to people is such a treat! I've made lovely relationships by opening my home to guests.

I really like hosting guests! We have two spare rooms with queen beds plus an air mattress, so really no need to ever expect someone is going to stay in a hotel when they come to visit! I wouldn't like it every weekend, but once a month is good for me, and gives me downtown to prepare in the interim. I like to cook and plan a menu, always have treats on hand, and make big breakfasts. In fact, just next weekend we have 5 family members coming to stay!

I grew up in a home where my parents hosted a constant stream of guests (we even called it "Chez Margo" after my mom). So it's something I really love and have continued now that I have my own place. It's always a nice excuse to act like a tourist in your own city, and I love showing my good friends and family a fun and interesting time. My dream is one day getting to use one of my bedrooms (currently used by a roommie) as my guestroom!

I love hosting guests in my home when it comes to dear friends and family members.I'm already planning for my birthday party (months in advance). I'm considering throwing a small tea party, and making all my guests favorite foods with tea, and of course, some my favorite foods, too (as I'm the birthday girl). It will be fun!
