Do You Hang Political Figure Art in Your Home?

In today's LA Times, the article "Obama Memorabilia Displayed in Homes" notes that "Baby-boomer Catholics may remember a time when their parents removed the Jesus portrait from the mantel and replaced it with an 8-x-10 of John F. Kennedy. But in the intervening 48 years, until Obama won the office, has any president motivated so many Americans of all ages and races to put up his portrait in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms?" Do you have artwork of Barack Obama, or other political leaders, in your home?

I agree with fleurfairy as well, I think that old memorabilia or photographs can be interesting if done right. I also would like one of the Warhol pieces featuring Ronald Reagan in his moviestar years in an ad for Van Heusen shirts, but I'm a pop art fiend.

this is a cultural, race/class question if ever i saw one. hmm. in the '90s, i had a big malcolm x poster up for a long time. i'd consider a well-done portrait of obama for the same reason i have an image of john coltrane, one of zora neale hurston (look her up), and artwork by romare bearden and bettye saar - they inspire me. a florence knoll sofa inspires me too. not exactly ticky tacky.

I dunno, my history prof always said that having a picture of your country's leader hanging in your living room is a sure sign you live in a dictatorship...

I don't have a photo of Obama but I do have a campaign poster up. The writing says "I registered because my generation is this country's future." It has the campaign website and a little Obama logo at the bottom, so I put it behind some other photos. I also have this big framed thing with pictures of the DNC from 1908.

I made Christmas ornaments out of my Obama campaign buttons. Pity I"ll only get to see them once a year.

Any political art is considered tacky. You might as well put up a velvet Jesus.

I'm in most of the photos of politicians I have in my house. I also have some political memorabilia and pictures of Reagan and Eisenhower.

People do. My family owns/runs a very large picture framing store and we have done at least 1,000 Obama pieces in the last 4 months--mostly the Obey Giant poster.

I don't know. I wouldn't personally but that picture of Obama is nice.

I agree with fleurfairy completely. I like the idea of an old black and white maybe of some political figure as an unexpected touch.

I'd like to have a nice photo of Theodore Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln tucked away around a corner. Something unexpected and patriotic. I wouldn't put up a picture of Obama though...no way.
