Do You Have a Folding Screen?

In eighth-century Japan, folding screens, or byōbu, were traditionally used to prevent the wind from blowing into rooms. By the 18th century, folding screens had taken on a new purpose. Since homes were better-insulated, the screens were used as dressing room partitions or simply for decorative purposes.Folding screens became iconic in the Golden Age of Hollywood when coy actresses in black-and-white films would hide behind them, draping their glamorous ensembles over the screens. You might not be starring in a blockbuster film, but a folding screen could be of great use to you if you're in need of a room partition or if you've got junk to conceal. As you can see, they come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Take your pick.

I have one that I'm not currently using. They're great in the right space, I just don't have one.

I inherited a wooden frame screen from my g-mother. It has dowl rods at the top/bottom of each section and I change out the fabric to match whatever suits my decor-of-the-moment. I once used it on front of a window in leiu of curtains or blinds.

The only other door in my apartment besides the front door is for the bathroom, so I have a screen that I use as a bedroom door if I have company and it also came in handy when I first had my kitten to keep him from getting into too much trouble while I was at work. Now I mostly use it as a headboard for my bed.

I have always wanted one myself, but I don't really think it would fit in my little condo. Maybe when I move into my house and I can find one that is blue, white and gold.

Some of these can look great in a home depending on the room.

My neighbor was selling an ivory woven wood one in her garage sale. I bought it for $3.00 and spray painted it a glossy black and stuck it in an odd corner in my bedroom.
