Do You Have a Skylight?

If you hadn't noticed, the sun is the source of life for everything on this planet — and perhaps Mars. It's also a source of light for your home during the day, unless you live in a windowless concrete box or some extreme regions near the North or South Pole. Installing a skylight in your home amplifies the amount of sunlight you get, making even the smallest rooms feel spacious and fresh and also helping your plants thrive. But they can also raise your electric bill if you compensate for the heat sunlight brings by upping the A/C. And unless you use certain protective coatings, installing one can cause your furniture and textiles to fade. Tell me, do you have a skylight?

I have two in my bathroom. I'm three stories up so it's a fantastic way to wake up in the morning - showering with only the sky (and some glass!) above you, without worrying that anyone can see in!

My childhood-home has three. Two in the hallway and one in the laundry-room. All those spaces would not have much light other-wise. So it is good to have them.

before our house we had a condo with a huge sky light in the upstairs hallway. the laundry was in a closet off that hallway/balcony and it was so light and bright i actually liked doing the laundry. i also enjoyed hearing the rain on the skylight, very cozy. the house we have wouldn't be a good candidate for a skylight. but i kind of miss having one.

we have one, and i would pay to have it removed if i could!A bathroom skylight would be awesome, however ours is is right over our bed - and we can't installa cover, so right now, we are woken up by the sun at 5:15am! and forget about naps.so yes love them in a kitchen or bathroom- i love love the sound of rain, but no no no in the bedroom

I have skylights in my bathrooms. They are basically pointless because they are domed out and you can't really see out because they are so dirty between the glass. They just discolor the floor.

I have a sunroom with two skylights...they're so pretty to be under in the fall and summer. I also have a skylight in the bathroom, which is my favorite :)!

The only problem with Skylights is that it is very hard to keep them from leaking. This is the third home I've lived in with a skylight and in each one we've had to deal with leaking, water damage and continued repairs. Not a good feeling to come home and look at the wall to see brown water stains running down the wall.

I almost just bought a fabulous co-op loft that was on the top floor and had a large skylight that the lofted bedroom and the kitchen shared - it was GORGEOUS. I did however buy a place on the first floor of a six story building - so, even though I would love a skylight, esp in the bathroom, and I do own my own home... I doubt the people living on the 2nd floor would appreciate it!
