9 Easy Ways to Add Instant Brightness to a Dark Room

Do You and Your Housemate Have Compatible Styles?

Whether you live with a Craigslist-found roommate, boyfriend or husband, or best friend, decorating with more than one person isn't always easy. Maybe one housemate is into "bohemian old-world rustic" like Gerard Butler's home and the other is all glitz and glam like Khloe Kardashian. Or maybe your roommate prefers the minimalist approach while you take the stance that more is more. In my own experiences, I've lived with roommates who are pretty open to compromise, even when our styles differ. Although, there's usually that one thing that they can't give up on — a favorite La-Z-Boy, a prized piece of artwork, or an affinity for black furniture. What is your collaborative decorating environment?

Yes! I got lucky! My husband and I like the same styles and architecture. SOMETIMES we differ but I'd say 99% of the time we pick out the same things!

No. Hubbie and I do not have compatible styles. As far as interior (and landscape) design, I am more innovative, edgier, and I take more risks. Generally, my design stands out (in a good way, I think). My husband's taste is more mainstream, predictable, and conforms to existing styles. In my book, that reads boring. That reads dull. :) Well, I am very passionate about interior and landscape design so my husbands lets me do whatever I want (as if he has a choice!). ;)

yes, we're very compatible, and where we don't necessarily agree right away, we're quick to compromise, and when he has a strong opinion it's usually very valid, and vice versa and we respect each other's opinion - we are surprisingly on the same wavelength when it comes to decorating and style and how we want our house to look and feel so we got lucky and never really had to try

Hubby and I are not really extremely compatible when it comes to decorating tastes. I love bright punches of color and he likes to stick with neutrals or dark blues, which I consider extremely boring. I've got a more of a modern and sleek taste and he seems like prefer old-fashioned stuff, which we've learned to mix pretty well. If I lived on my own, though, this place would be a lot girlier, too! Something I can't really indulge on living with my husband ;)
