Evacuations in California and Hawaii Due to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

Have You Ever Been Evacuated From Your Home?

Today, an earthquake registering in at a frightening 8.9 magnitude hit the northeast coast of Japan causing devastating damage and loss of life in the country. Additionally, tsunami alerts were issued throughout countries bordering the Pacific Ocean. Residents and visitors in Hawaii were evacuated due to a tsunami warning, and closer by, residents all along the West Coast were put on alert, with voluntary evacuations happening along the California coast.
Evacuations are issued for many natural disasters. Have you ever participated in an evacuation due to flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, or other reasons?

Mainly I've had to evacuate to my basement for tornadoes....but sometimes, my basement was across the street with other families' basements! Military housing can be so funky sometimes!

No I've never had to evacuate my home. My family in New Orleans had to evacuate because of Katrina and their experience was horrible. I hope I never need to evacuate.

I evacuated my home in New Orleans in anticipation of Hurricane Katrina. My house was okay, but let me tell you, sitting in stop-and-go, contraflow traffic for 10 hours was NOT fun. My family once somehow was never alerted of a freak, early morning gas explosion next to our house in Vermont, which caused the whole town to be evacuated. The only reason we found out was because fire trucks began backing into our driveway. At the point, it was too late to leave.
