Glass Blocks — Love It or Hate It?

Love It or Hate It? Glass Blocks

Many rooms have been dramatically improved with a wall of glass blocks, and the truth is that my downstairs bathroom could greatly benefit from a little daylight too, but I just can't bring myself to do it. My cutting-edge interior designer friend swears they are back in style, claiming that the right clear blocks can add a modern and fresh element to almost any dark and dreary pad. Yet, all I can think of is Miami Vice when I see a wall of glass blocks — but then again, that was how I felt about skinny jeans and now I can't live without them. What's your opinion on glass blocks: love 'em or hate 'em?

They look pretty cool in public spaces but I wouldn't really think of having them at home.

Eh. I'm not a fan, but most of the time they are placed in a way that makes them look outdated.

Glass blocks go in and out of style. I think it's kind of dumb to permanently install something that requires framing and mortar just because someone tells you they are in this year. Use them if you *like* them. I had a 1930's era house with glass blocks on the side of the porch and I thought it was beautiful.

i have to admit - i'm such a fan of glass blocks! i think they scream art deco/retro glam and can be used in a modern way just have to find the right setting for them so they're not dowdy!x

Fug, fug, fug. Don't do it! What about a frosted or textured glass? Or a window with a shade?
