Global Style at Helsinki Coffee Shop

Get the Look: A Hip Helsinki Coffee Shop

Note Design Studio recently completed the interiors of a Johan & Nyström concept store in Helsinki. The coffee purveyor's newest store is located in an old port warehouse, which features brick walls, dark wood, and strong architecture. To brighten up the space, Note Design Studio relied on olive ash wood, brass fixtures, and fixed features that stood freely in the room. When it came to the furniture, the company used bright, patterned pieces that reflected the various global spots where the coffee was sourced.

This Helsinki cafe offers perfect inspiration for adding a global feel to your own home. To get started, add several of the Innit Acapulco Chairs ($250 and up) to your home. These chairs' designs are based on Mayan hammock weaving technology, and combine ergonomic comfort with retro-modern aesthetics. There are a variety of styles to choose from, including rockers and "baby" sizes, as well as a variety of colors.

To mimic the look of the vibrant upholstered footstools, collect a variety of poufs, ottomans, and footstools that combine vibrant patterns and colors. Look for batik, kente, shibori, and other global textiles. Some of my favorites are these Moroso Fjord Footstools from designer Patricia Urquiola.
