No, never, though I'd like to be one... as it is I have to have an argument with my soon-to-be mother-in-law:P

I have to because I'm a very anal perfectionist and I get overwhelmed when doing anything that involves a plethora of options and choices. I want to look at my bedroom, for example, and love everything about it. And I never want to look at another bedroom and like it better.

I tend to not like decorator's opinions on things. I don't like having bright colors in my home and that seems to be all that designers wanna use. I also like my home to reflect and you can't do that if someone else is doing all the work for you.

No way! Design is a major love of mine and I even think about how to design imaginary rooms around pieces I see and fall in love with, so doing so would take away a true pleasure of mine. Since we all come to this site, I'd be surprised if our particular demographic varies at all from this opinion.

no. i think the market has really changed in the last 10 years, though. thats my opinion, anyway. damn that trading spaces and other similar shows!! i got out of the interior design field but am thinking of offering services on my website when i get it up, for eco-design, that way (as a vegan) i don't need to recommend leather furniture.

Hayll naw! I am a poor college student... One day.... One day I will have the house of my dreams, and maybe a decorator can help me make my design decisions! For now, magazines and the internet are my free consulting.

Nope, never hired one but my sister is a great designer. She's painted our family's home and rearranged it to suit my mother's tastes without being too much like my mother's tastes. Lol. I know that once I get a place of my own, I'll be asking her advice on how to decorate. Heck, she is already my clothing stylist. :) When I look damn good, it's her doing.

I actually work for an interior designer as the office manager. He's incredibly exclusive, we only do word of mouth advertising, and prospective clients must meet all sorts criteria including overall architecture, lifestyle, what circles they run in, worth and income, vehicle, what they do, etc. I just drafted an invoice for a $36,000 rug. A RUG!!! What have I learned here? That, really, any one can do this, and you can make anything beautiful if your room is good.Example: A grated hatch from a tugboat turned into a table looks like butt in a room with yellowing, shabby walls and bad lighting, but put it in a room with clean color and light and it looks great. So no matter how great your pieces are, unless the room's lit correctly and the walls are fresh and harmonious, nothing will look good.Sorry for the essay.

No, I wouldn't hire one. I'm an architect/ furniture designer, so I have a good eye and don't need one. I do think more people should hire one, though.

I feel like I know what I want my space to look like but at the store and throughout the process I feel like I get confused or lost- I think hiring someone might be able to bring my vision to life better than I could on my own

No, I do it all myself. I have formal training in color theory and interior design is a hobby of mine.

I'm usually the one my friends and family come to for decorating ideas! I really enjoy decorating and seem to have an eye for it.

No, I've never hired one but my sister is a fabulous interior designer and she has helped with decorating a previous home. This time however, I'm doing it all on my own. I don't want anyone else's taste or ideas influencing my choices anymore.
