Have You Painted Your Home's Exterior?

Have You Painted Your Home's Exterior?

This Victorian would look majestic with a new coat of paint and fun Painted Lady-type detailing and colors. It's a big job, and people often hire painters to complete it, though this Su Casa reader did it herself (nice work!). Have you ever painted your home's exterior? Is it something you're considering doing soon?

We recently hired professionals to do ours, and it cost a cool $14K but was so, so worth it, as it looks incredible (they did amazing prep especially; they spent a week sandling and spackling first). It's an Edwardian, so given its age and how much molding and detailing it has, I don't think it would work if an amateur did it. But if your house is new and has a simple facade I say go for it! :-)Sidenote: I went to elementary school across the street from that house and still pass it every day! :-)

My mother and I did paint our house before we sold it, but I would hardly say I was a pro.

Great job! We've lived in several homes. We've painted the exterior of only one of those homes, so while I have painted a home's exterior I don't consider myself a pro. Each home has had a different kind of exterior (cedar shingle, brick, aluminum siding, T-111, stucco etc.) I can't rightly call myself a pro simply because I successfully painted one of those homes lol.I want to paint our current home but if we ever get around to it, we'll hire someone for this job. I simply don't want to deal with it on this house.
