Have You Received a Broken Order?

Ordering online is so effortless these days, it's practically the only way I shop. And, although I like to steer clear of malls and boutiques for fear of temptation, there is value in shopping locally. Obviously, it cuts out shipping costs. But you also know what you're in for when you shop in-store. Luckily, I haven't had too many experiences with orders arriving broken when I shop online, but this is not true for all. A good friend of mine just purchased a television stand which not only arrived broken but completely missing several pieces. What a headache! She now says she's sworn off online shopping for good. What's your experience?

We ordered a DVD player online last week and received it two days. The box was very badly damaged. We took pictures just in case, but so far it looks like it's working OK. We weren't very happy though.

Yes but the people I've ordered from have always taken care of things promptly and easily!

the only problem i've had as a buyer was when i ordered a pair of boots for my sisters christmas present last year and they managed to send me two left boots, one size 5 and one size 7.5. it was so random. however, i work in a warehouse receiving product in from vendors and some of the crap we get sent is amazing. we were sent a box of used, torn up, and disgusting books (seriously, some of them were covered in an oil-like substance) from a very respectable company. we get broken mugs and shot glasses all the time. it's never usually a problem to get new merchandise or a credit from the vendor but still. i also ship out customer purchases and in six months only two things have arrived broken. sometimes things just break, no matter how well they are packaged. seeing the way UPS and FedEx throw boxes around it really isn't that surprising lol.

I ordered from Nordstrom two separate times. Each time they sent me USED UGGs!! GROSS!! You don't wear socks with them. I was soooooo angry! The first pair looked like they had been worn for a year and returned, beyond disgusting. The second, had minimal damage, but hey if I'm spending $175.00 on shoes they better be new!

I have other issues with online shopping, mainly that it's practically non existent in South Africa (apart from books, dvds, cds and electronic items). I can't ever buy clothes online, not even from US sites because they don't ship here. Not unless I want to go via an international ordering site and pay twice as much as the item itself just to get it here! I can't even buy mp3s from iTunes because South Africa isn't on their list. Now, I can't even shop from Amazon anymore without paying astronomical import duties on normal items like books or dvds. THAT's my issue with online shopping, ha ha.

I've gotten electronics or computer parts that were broken, thankfully the return system is fairly easy to use and 9 times out of 10 I'll get whatever arrived broken replaced rather quickly. I don't know if this is just me but I've noticed I've gotten more crushed and damaged boxes from USPS than from any other shipping company.
