Have You Taken a Family Portrait?

While I'm not a huge fan of traditional family portraits, I do like the idea of a quirkier take on the classic portrait. The less-traditional photo shoot usually provides a glimpse of the family's personality in a way that a more classic portrait isn't able.

I'm definitely a fan of Making It Lovely's holiday portrait, which provides a fun take on a classic tradition thanks to the geeky glasses and argyle sweaters. Tell me: have you taken a family portrait, and is it more a classic one, or a quirky update on the old standby?

Frenched, I had a similar experience when my mom asked my brother, sister, and me to take a professional portrait together about eight years ago. We all wore gray, which was a terrible color choice, and the lighting was awful. We ended up looking pretty terrible in all of the pictures!

Yes, and it turned out horrifying. Not only were we not dressed in our best attire, the lighting was just incredibly unflattering and I totally hate my family's portrait growing up, LOL. I think it's definitely time for an update.

After our mom passed away a year ago, my sisters and I realized that we hardly had any pictures of the whole family. So now we make a point to take a family picture (us three girls plus our dad) every holiday, birthday, etc. We just use the self-timer on someone's camera, usually with pretty funny results! I recommend it.
