Hotel Havana in San Antonio, Texas

Home Away From Home: San Antonio's Hotel Havana

Deep in the heart of Texas, there's a swanky new spot where people like it hot. One of the more charming cities in the lone star state, San Antonio has something to brag about — the newly renovated Hotel Havana. As a heat loving, Mexican food adoring, Texas fan, I can't wait to toss my bags on the guest beds of this new spot and enjoy a mojito. A historical place with bones to show for it, the Cuban-themed hotel was originally built in 1914 along the city's famous Riverwalk. Having passed through the hands of many owners, it was recently refurbished by hotelier Liz Lambert of Bunkhouse Management — also responsible for my other favorite Texas spot, Hotel San José.

Come see why I'm feeling the love for these digs!

Pulling inspiration from the Cuban culture, the Hotel Havana is dressed to the nines with vibrant décor that has me daydreaming about painting some of my own belongings. Hot pink pillows, colorful Smeg refrigerators, wrought iron beds, velvet tufted chairs, crystal chandeliers, a rainbow of leather chairs, and turquoise, lacquered bed frames all make you feel like you need a passport to check in for the night. Thankfully you won't need a passport or even that much cash. With rooms starting at $149 a night, you'll be able to enjoy the punch in the bar's basement, not a punch in the wallet. Check me in, please!

I love Hotel San Jose! I used to live down the street from there and would walk to the Hotel San Jose courtyard for Champassion and a cheese plate. I haven't been to Hotel Havana or that other hotel in Austin owned by the same person yet, though.
