How Well Do You Sleep When You're Away From Home?

How Well Do You Sleep When You're Away From Home?

I don't know about you, but I often have trouble sleeping when I'm away from home — on vacation or not. I'm not sure if it's the light, the noise, the mattress, the pillow, just the feeling that I'm out of place, the feeling that things were left undone back home, or all of the above. Am I alone in this? Tell me your thoughts.

I slept poorly for years when traveling. I was just never comfortable. What I did was switch to a satin pillowcase at home and I started to take it with me when traveling. Now it's like bringing my bedroom with me. It's so comfortable and my hair and skin are so much better since I switched from a cotton pillowcase. Cotton will create friction on your hair causing split-ends and frizzes. It also is naturally absorbent so it takes the moisture out of your hair as well. Satin allows your hair to just glide across it. I wound up getting a travel pillow with a satin pillowcase from the same people. They have a page on their website that tells all the benefits of sleeping on satin. The company is A Touch Of Satin. Their website is if you're interested in reading about the benefits. You can also check out their travel pillows and regular satin pillowcase selections. Well, I hope this helps you. It certainly made a big difference for me.

I usually have a harder time sleeping away from home because my cat isn't sleeping at the foot of my bed.

I HAVE to have my own pillow! If I want any kind of quality pillow must come with me. Camping, vacationing, even an overnight visit to a friends or family member's house. Doesn't matter. Pillow comes with! My friends laugh and make fun of me...but when they wake up the next morning complaining about not being able to sleep, or having a stiff neck or shoulders...I giggle into MY...PILLOW! Needless to say...they've started to bring their own pillows :)

I don't sleep well when the sounds are different. Also, the feel of the pillow is extremely important. When it's time to replace a worn out pillow, you'll find me freaking out in the pillow aisle of the department store because I can't find one that feels the same as the one at home. I'm definitely a finicky sleeper.

I hate to sleep away from home. I love to travel but I am a freak about clean sheets and mattresses. I hate holes and stains . The hotel always has that smell similar to the hospital.

i sleep the best at my inlaws' house. i think it's the mattress- even though it's smaller than the one we have at home, it's way more comfortable.

It depends. I can fall asleep just fine if it's somewhere I've stayed before, and the bed is similar to mine. If it's somewhere new, it's really up in the air. When I went to Ottawa last summer to visit my boyfriend, I fell asleep no problem, but if I'm alone, I have some trouble.

I'm not so good at sleeping away from home. Then again, I'm a pretty light sleeper anyway so sometimes I'm not sleeping well even if I am at home!

I generally have no problems sleeping and can sleep anywhere. I usually fall asleep before the plane takes off!! I'm lucky because I can sleep through just about anything, whereas, both my brother and sister, Bizzybee, have difficulty sleeping.

I need to get thoroughly adjusted to my environment, but after that's done, no problem with insomnia! :)

I don't sleep. Period. I wish I could sleep when away from home, but it just doesn't work. Can't sleep at home. Can't sleep away from home. Yes, I've tried it all. I'm in a clinical trial at Rush University Medical Center. So, needless to say, no sleepie for me. sigh.

Last vacation I slept well, but it was a cabin and had a comfy bed. Vacation before that was a hotel and I slept like crap ... So it depends on the situation

I never sleep as well as I do when I'm at home. It's never difficult to get to sleep but I'll wake several times during the night.

I don't have a problem with it, as long as it is comfy and quiet. I think some people might have a co dependent relationship with theirs. ;)
