How Would You Rate Your Kitchen's Cleanliness? 2010-09-08 05:00:00

How Would You Rate Your Kitchen's Cleanliness?

According to the AP, new research suggests that "at least one in seven home kitchens would flunk the kind of health inspection commonly administered to restaurants." Among questions in the study, people were asked "whether raw meat is stored below other foods on refrigerator shelves, and whether fruits and vegetables are always thoroughly rinsed before they are eaten."

This new finding certainly doesn't surprise me. I've been in plenty of kitchens that look straight out of Animal House, and I'll admit that I probably use the wrong sponge for washing dishes from time to time.
So I'd give my kitchen a B (some weeks B-) in the cleanliness department. How about you?

My kitchen and bathroom are also the cleanest part of my house.

I sometimes slack a little in the rest of the house, but I'm obsessive about the kitchen and bathrooms... mine are definitely cleaner than any restaurant I've worked in (and they all passed inspections).

I gave myself a C because I am a clean freak and I know how gross kitchens can "actually" get...like cupboards or under the fridge....I can't stay on top of it! My kitchen *looks* very very clean and tidy but I know where the grossness is and it irks me!

I chose B, because we're not totally anal, but we are pretty good, especially in the area of "washing fruits and veggies" and "storing meats properly". We also always disinfect and wipe down surfaces after every meal. The only reason I'd say it's anything less than clean is mostly just esthetic - the gas stove has a perma-grime on it from the previous owners and there are often fingerprints on the door of the fridge. But neither of those are health issues!
