I'm a sucker for an x-based base on almost anything that will stand, really, and Horchow's Lucille writing desk ($2,499) is no exception. The look is a fusion of contemporary and traditional, which I love. Natural, lime-oak finish seems to add a bit of soul to the clean silhouette. Still, the price point is a little hard to swallow. I was thrilled to find a look-alike at a much more affordable price.

Keep reading to discover a much less expensive version of the Horchow desk.Cost Plus World Market's Campaign desk ($230) is a great option for those of us who can't shell out the dough for Horchow's version. Although it doesn't have quite as much drawer space, the pull-out trays on either side provide additional surface space, if you need it. The World Market version is slightly larger than the Horchow design, which may or may not be preferable. There is also basic assembly required for the World Market desk, but I'm thinking that the thousands of dollars in savings might just make up for that!
