If you're dreaming of a kitchen renovation but are terrified to take the plunge, this before and after from Manhattan Nest blogger Daniel Kanter should give you hope. Strapped for cash after buying a fixer-upper with a kitchen that scared away most buyers, Daniel knew that he would have to make tough choices when overhauling the kitchen. By forgoing costly new appliances and keeping the existing sink and 60-year-old cabinets (gulp), Daniel had enough elbow grease and supplies to transform the kitchen's biggest eyesores.
In just 10 weeks, he turned a disaster area into a clean, utilitarian space for cooking and entertaining. What exactly did he do? He took down the drop ceiling, patched and prepped, painted everything in sight (including the cabinets and radiator), changed the cabinet hardware, whipped up some new DIY wood plank countertops, indulged in some subway tile, and switched out the lighting. Impressive, eh? We think so!
