Love It or Hate It? HBO's Grey Gardens Interiors

Love It or Hate It? HBO's Grey Gardens Interiors

Over the weekend, I watched the HBO movie Grey Gardens, which dovetails with the 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles of the same name. The film focuses on "Big Edie" (played by Jessica Lange) and "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale (played by Drew Barrymore), who live out their later years in a decrepit, squalor-filled Hamptons mansion. While the set and costume design was amazing throughout the film, I found the decaying, garbage-strewn mansion of the Beales' later years as compelling to look at as the intact, perfectly put-together mansion of the past. Were you equally interested in the interiors of this film?

A friend and I both figured that anyone who hasn't seen the documentary would likely find Drew's performance campy and over-the-top, but that is exactly how Little Edie was! you would have to see the original (and love it) to understand how Drew Barrymore really did such a superb job as Little Edie.

I liked this and I loved the decor of the original mansion and the style from their past. I am really interested in seeing the original documentary now.I couldn't believe how they could live in filth and squalor like that and practically think nothing of it.It was just a fascinating story to see their drop from wealth and prominence to living alone and tucked away all by themselves.
