Margaret Jaconelli Forced to Leave Her Home in Glasgow, Scotland

Would You Fight a Forced Eviction?

Ardenia Street in Glasgow, Scotland, has been almost entirely cleared of its residents so the homes can be demolished. Why? The Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which will be held in 2014, need to use the street to build temporary housing.

One resident, though, is still holding out. Margaret Jaconelli, who's lived in her home for 34 years, was supposed to be evicted from her home already, but lawyers are still arguing on her behalf.

Friends of mine were forced to sell some of their property to the local utility some years ago, and are still quite bitter about it. They didn't vigorously oppose the sale, but I think it might've been different if it had been their home, and not undeveloped land.

What if you were asked to leave your home, or sell it to the city or state for a building project? Would you oppose or fight the forced eviction?

In the case of this resident-you bet your @ss I would fight it! Wanting her out of her home of 34 YEARS for a TEMPORARY building project? Seriously!? Pick somewhere else to build, assholes. WTH? All them money in the world they would offer would not even remotely budge me in my fight for the PRINCIPLE of the situation. It's one thing if they want to build something permanent. It would still suck, but it would be permanent. To kick someone out of their home for something temporary-Oh Hell no. find somewhere else. My thoughts go out to this woman and other residents involved. The spoiled corporate/government brats cant get their way all the time. Their comes a time when these people need to back the hell off of us "little people" and stop invading our lives. They cant always get what they want. Screw them.
