A New York Town House Gets a Dose of Miami Modernism

May 21 2014 - 6:35am

When Alexis Gomez decided to uproot her life in Miami to start fresh in New York City, finding the perfect apartment (with an interior designer to match) was key. As a young entrepreneur with a background in real estate, Alexis managed to nab the type of town house many of us dream about: a spacious, floor-through layout, pristine architectural details (ahem, those arched, Anglo-Italianate-style windows!), original parlor floors, and loads of natural light. Once Alexis was paired with Casey DeBois, one of Homepolish's [1] interior designers, they instantly clicked, and the magic commenced. See how Alexis and Casey turned an extraordinary shell into a stylish home.

Fun trivia: Alexis's town house was once home to the Rolling Stones early in their career — it’s rumored they wrote "Sympathy For the Devil" and "Paint It Black" here.

Believe it or not, Casey discovered the pair of Milo Baughman brass cantilever chairs (around the dining table) on Etsy for $600! They were the first pieces to arrive.

A colorful graphic and a stack of coffee-table books lay the foundation for smaller accessories like a sculptural air freshener and a lacquered box.

Alexis's table lamp and vases look just as artful as the colorful piece hanging on her wall.

With a fireplace facade as regal as this, it only seems fitting to work in some gold rococo. By surrounding it with simple, modern pieces and a black-and-white color palette, the mirror feels anything but gaudy.
