Open House: What's Blooming?

Open House: What's Blooming?

My front porch is overwhelmed with the scent of freesia and jasmine flowers right now. Of course, since I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm pretty lucky to always have something in bloom here. When I lived in the Midwest, I remember the thrill of seeing the first crocuses peek through the melting snow. In this photo, daffodils are dappling the US capitol with brilliant Spring colors. Are Spring flowers peeking through the soil at your home? Have you planted any annuals? Did you plant any bulbs that are now blooming? Tell me about your home's flower power!

This is our first spring in our house so we’re having fun seeing what pops up. Daffodils have come and gone; there are some pinky-purple flowers that I think are crocuses; and our dogwood is starting to bloom. Until we mow for the first time the back yard is full of violets. And dandelions, but I’m plucking those up now so they won’t spread. They’re pretty but they can get out of control! We’re going to focus on keeping things groomed this first year – just getting used to mowing and raking will be enough of a challenge! Serious planting will be saved for next year. But I have some seeds that I’ll plant in the next few weeks, just to have something to watch out for. I have no idea if they’ll grow at all – not much of a green thumb.

The daffodils are in full force and I have one tulip that's just budding. I really wanted to plant this weekend, but winter in Ohio isn't quite finished and this weeks is going to be a cold one.

Lilegwene, I was in DC around that time last year, and it was so sunny and gorgeous!! I didn't plant anything sadly, but the saintpaulia and the little rose shrub on my window woke up all of a sudden about 10 days ago, and have been growing dozens of tiny leaves and plenty of buds. :P I love Spring!

I'm so jealous! I'm in Chicago right now and it snowed today, and we're expecting snow again tomorrow. I haven't seen any flowers yet this year. :(

Live near D.C. and went down to the Jefferson Memorial on Thursday to see all of the cherry blossoms! Tiny white flowers, light pink flowers, and dark pink flowers on every tree. It looks gorgeous.
