Open House: Who Is Your Handyman?

You know I love to DIY. But, contrary to popular opinion, I am not actually good at everything. I can paint, sew, garden, hang wallpaper, and even do some plumbing, among other things. But, electrical projects are not my forté; and it's probably a fire hazard for me to attempt them. Some of you may be quite adept at installing a new light fixture and rewiring your outlets, though. Or maybe you can fix a squeaky door with the touch of your pinky finger. Maybe your man does all the work for you — or none at all. Or, perhaps you hire someone to fix things around the house or know a great celebrity handyman. Tell me where your skill set lies, and where it's lacking by commenting below!

My bf and I share most tasks. I'm better at doing detailed things, but he's the one that does all the plumbing and large appliances.

I'm totally the handy (and crafty!) one in our house. I can hardwire a light fixture, build a bookcase from scratch, strip and refinish a a dresser and sew a new cover for the couch. My hubs, while not handy, does a mean load of laundry, cooks a KILLER steak, and always knows the right song to put on the stereo...it's a balance that totally works for us!

My husband and I usually try to do things ourselves. But if there's something we can't do I call my dad.

I'd say I'm "crafty" and my husband is "handy." I'm stubborn and independent so sometimes it's tough for me to ask for help.

so agree urban Chic...if my handy man looekd like that I would totally hire one! But mostly I just do it myself...if I am lazy I'll get my bf to help me..espeically if its something that requires me to stand on a ladder/chair..sometimes its just easier for his 6'3 frame to reach...rather than mine 5'7

Ummm... he can be my handyman any time! :) hahaha, but seriously... I can fix a lot of stuff. If I can't do it, I ask my mom for help.

We're DIYers, and we're cheap so we try to do everything ourselves if we can. So far we've been able to do everything ourselves in our current house. We just installed a new light fixture in my office yesterday (my boyfriend used to be an electrician).

I'm a single mom and I've learned to fix things in my house all by myself. I plastered and sanded a whole wall in my bathroom and I was quite impressed on the work. One thing I would like to do is a whole kitchen renovation.

I'm not a pro. But m,y boyfriend is pretty good! He installed our dishwasher even! He tries to act like he isn't very good, but he always figures out the stuff :)
