I know you're all dying to know what we did with our floors. Did we install new floors? Did we paint? Did we whitewash? Did we stick with the natural color? Did we stain them darker? What did we do?! Well the wait is over. But first let me explain . . . Once we pulled up the 50-year-old vinyl flooring, and some old-timey pressed fiber board type thing, we found this.
WOOD! Read on.
We guessed it was pine, possibly leftover bits seeing as the widths varied. Then we sanded them down.
Not too bad. So we figured we might as well stick with these. At this point I was torn between just whitewashing them or painting them a nice glossy white. So I let Pookie choose. He was doing the work after all. And wah-lah!
He chose to paint them in a heavy duty glossy white that is surprisingly easy to keep clean and, most importantly, bounces the light around what used to be the darkest room in the house. Yay! I love my new old floors, gaps and all.
