The homes that I grew up in were traditional, East Coast Colonials and couldn't be described as modern any way you looked at them. But my current digs are definitely contemporary in many respects — minimal, cheeky, off-the-wall. But I gravitate toward older homes with crown moldings, built-in cabinets, and marble fireplaces, and I also enjoy a little ornate girliness here and there. So for me, a balance is key. So when I came across this Ockendon, London house, which appears to have a very split personality, I felt very much at home. Bedrooms feature dainty botanical wallpaper, feminine polka dot curtains, and well-loved upholstered club chairs, while the kitchen makes a mod statement with vibrant red stools, concrete countertops, and state-of-the-art appliances. I almost feel like the house is calling out to me: "Julia, hop a flight to Heathrow!"
