Refinish Your Piano With Chalkboard Paint

Cool Idea: Chalk Up Your Piano Skills

I scored my childhood piano from my parents, only to realize a key point: I don't have space for it. So, it collects dust in storage, while I contemplate how to make room for it in hopes that my children will become accomplished pianists — or at least learn to play "Chopsticks." The old player took a beating from my siblings and me, so it needs a lot of TLC. Refinishing it seems daunting, but I love The Modern Hive's idea of covering it in chalkboard paint and turning it into a grand musical tablet. This fun and whimsical approach just may harmonize my old instrument with my new style, without being the massive DIY project I had feared. My mom and dad cringe at the thought of it, but what do you think?

I used to have a beautiful antique upright, and I know how it's frustrating to have ugly scratches. But a piano is something that lasts for many years, and it's best that you refinish it with something classic and timeless. I would save the chalkboard experiment for something else, or just refinish the front part, the music stand (like where the chalk is in the picture above). So that if you decide later on that this finish wasn't the best idea, you can at least have an easier time refinishing over it.
