Sconce

Definition: Sconce

Not as tasty as scones but also available in seemingly infinite varieties, sconces are electric light or candle fixtures that are mounted on a wall, rather than hung from the ceiling. Sconces are generally placed about three-quarters of the way up a wall, and depending on the shape of the fixture, the light can be projected upwards, downwards, or outwards.

I work in lighting and should make one very important note...sconce is not to be confused with scone, which is a baked good. It always drove me nuts when a client would ask for a scone for her fireplace (etc..)End of Rant ;)
