Screen Doors Encourage Summer Breezes

Do You Have a Screen Door?

For me, summertime is almost inseparable with the sound of my grandparents' screen door opening and shutting. Over 30 years, it maintained its characteristic squawk, thanks to a never-replaced, aging spring. Now, my brother owns the house, and guess what? The same screen door, with the same protesting spring, remains on the house, even though he and his wife have renovated the rest of the farmhouse.

Screen doors are great for letting in cooling Summer breezes while keeping out unwanted pesky insects, but they're not de rigueur in most houses. Do you have one on your casa?

All 5 of our doors that lead outside have screen doors. I love being able to leave my doors open and not have to worry about flies and such.

I want one so bad! I am torn between enjoying the fresh air and hating the flies. I have been pestering my husband to install one.

My house only has two outside walls and therefore hardly any windows on the main floor, I couldn't live without my screen door! ... well, I could live with just the AC, but I live more happily with fresh air :)
