Steven Alan Fall 2011 Wool Coat

3 Warm and Beautiful Ways to Translate This Steven Alan Coat to Your Home

Yesterday, FabSugar gave readers a sneak peek of designer Steven Alan's Fall lookbook. Filled with cozy, casual, and stylish items including velvet skirts, dotted dresses, and layered trouser looks, I was in love with many of the pieces from the Steven Alan Fall lookbook. My favorite piece, however, was this striped wool car coat.

This coat from Steven Alan, which will be available for sale this Fall, offers such a classic look. I can imagine wearing it on a weekend road trip tour to Vermont to take in the Fall colors. It would be equally suited to an afternoon on the stands at a college football game, or a casual evening out with friends. Given its versatility and classic look, it also translates perfectly to the home.

I've found three easy ways to translate the look from this coat into your home. Keep on reading to see how to get the look of the Steven Alan Fall wool coat in your home.

For a classic look, choose the Hudson's Bay Blanket ($460). Offered by Woolrich, these Hudson's Bay Point blankets carry the official license of the historic Hudson's Bay Company. These blankets have been sold since the 18th century, and are still fresh in modern interiors.

Today, these blankets are made in England with wool blended from sources in England, Wales, New Zealand, and India. I slept under one of these blankets growing up, and can personally guarantee that they'll keep you cozy indeed. To see how they look in a modern, hip interior, check out one of the bedrooms from The Chandelier Surf Shack.

Another beautiful and modern choice is Coyuchi's Striped Wool Blanket ($180 and up). I love the variety of colors this blanket comes in, as well as the fact that the blankets are made from sheep pastured in Canada — which is where the blankets are also produced. The blanket design features three slim stripes at the top and bottom and whipstitching all around. I'm especially loving the gray blanket with the contrasting soft turquoise stripe.

For another great choice, try the Pendleton Yosemite National Park Blanket ($190 and up). Pendleton Woolen Mills has been honoring national parks in the US for over 100 years with its collection of gorgeous park blankets. This Glacier Park National Park Blanket was one of the first blankets Pendleton produced. I love its colors and markings, which date back to the frontier trading posts. These blankets are still woven at the original Pendleton Woolen Mill in the foothills of Oregon's Blue Mountains.
