In my opinion, a living room needs a bona fide coffee table to accommodate TV dinners and a pair of stretched-out legs. But if you have a sitting room in your home that's meant more for socializing than, say, cocktail hour, I recommend taking a note from New York-based designer Kevin O'Shea, and introduce a crop of stools in front of your sofa. Not only is the mixed-and-matched design utterly unique, but it allows you the options of additional seating when you need it. If your home is brimming with guests, your pals can pull out one of the seats and take a load off their party heels, but on normal days, the seating area offers a few different tabletop surfaces and just . . . looks charming!
