They're not poisonous, though they will cause stomach upset and may cause a rash. Because they are part of the euphorbia species, some people are sensitive to the milky sap the plant produces. Cats will vomit if they eat pointsettia leaves—but that is true for almost any houseplant.According to the Society of American Florists, no other consumer plant has been as extensively tested as the poinsettia, and they're not toxic. In fact, "according to POISINDEX (R), the information resource used by the majority of US poison control centers, a 50-pound child would have to eat more than 1.25 pounds of poinsettia bracts (500 to 600 leaves) to exceed the experimental doses that found no toxicity" ("The Facts About Poinsettia", 1998).

Red and Pink are the only color cats can see to they are particularly attracted to this plant. (Although if they eat the plant it won't kill them, they will certainly puke all over your floor..)
