Trend Alert: LED Candles

Though you can by a pack of a gazillion tea lights at Ikea for like $3, votive candles come with their fair share of problems. Sure, they're cheap, but they have to be replaced constantly, creating waste, and of course there's that whole fire-hazard thing to consider.

Ever since I first stumbled upon the fabulous SunJar ($55), I've been intrigued by these LED candles showing up everywhere. The windproof lights flicker like real candles, so concealed behind glass, they create an effect similar to flame without the hassles. Some of them can even be "blown out." And because LED bulbs last forever, they're actually quite energy efficient. Check out the LED candles I've found by clicking on the photos below and let me know what you think.

Oh how cool! I LOVE candles but unfortunately I moved from an apartment with no fire-smoke-detector-thingies to one with about fifty of them! I can not light a damn thing inside this place, even when I cook if I don't turn on that fan thing on top of the stove the alarms start going off! I'm going to look around for these LED candles!

Lorelei Spirit and theboyslover--I believe that Glade just came out with some of these LED candles that are scented. The best of both worlds!

The best thing about candles is the smell. I don't like these. They have scented oil candles from Glade that go out when they run out so you don't have to worry about a fire hazard if you fall asleep or something like that.

I burn candles for the scent, so LED just won't cut it for me indoors, but I could see using them outdoors for a party. Also, the CaterpillarGirl's idea is a great one.

I don't like fake candles, I'd rather have the real thing. Expect for I like CaterpillarGirl's suggestion for Halloween.

These candles are beautiful. I used Led Flickering tealights at my wedding. I wasn't allowed open flame so I found these to be a great alternate. They are very cute and great for creating a cute atmosphere. As for the scent there is always popurri.

These would be good for an outdoor party where wind is an issue, or for luminaries during the holidays.

Very interesting, but there's something about good 'ole, traditional candles that the LED candles just can't accomplish. Maybe it's the experience--the smell of a freshly struck match, the heat of the flame, the dripping wet wax. There's just something so comforting and homey about a traditional candle.
