I have lived in and loved both but I do have to say it is nice when you don't have to worry about doing major renovations!

old...buildings on the outside r cool!! but the style on the insides make me feel like everythings haunted, modern styles in houses today are not creepy.....

I love my building! It's a historic building that was really well updated--elevators, central air, etc. but the common spaces are done really well and look vintage and awesome, but the apartments themselves are clean, crisp and modern. I looked at a lot of new buildings with gyms and coffee shops and stuff but the layouts were usually awful and the walls were super thin and everything seemed so sterile, it completely lacked character. Plus, since my building doesn't have a fitness center, it came with a free year at the Gold's Gym two blocks away, so it's even better!

I love old buildings that have all the new upgrades. I really like that old time charm, but it's hard to leave wifi and all that stuff. So a combo of both is good.

I love old buildings, and was fortunate enough to have or own old flats or homes at some point in my life so far. Right now I have a really modern place, and I admit its far easier to clean, and is easier to "tech out"....but it can never really replace the feeling of having a cast iron 1880s fireplace glowing at night..in your own bedroom. Both are great in their own way, but given the choice, vintage lifestyles and decor will always capture my imagination far before the modern will...be it 1800s with its massive windows and ornate ceilings, or an amazing medieval cottage with beamed ceilings and huge, rough hewn fireplaces.

That's not an apartment building! That is totally the SunTrust building in DC. I work in the white building on the left hand side of the picture.

I live in an old building and I adore it! I'm on the 3rd floor, and there's a gorgeous winding staircase to take me up, I have built-ins and dormer windows...it just has so much more character than new buildings. Old buildings all the way!

I much prefer the charm of an old building to anything a newer building would offer. There's too much new going on everywhere. We gotta preserve the old. :)

Old! I really want to live in an apartment in an older downtown building. I'd choose that over one of the fancy, new condos any day. I just think that older places have so much more character.

i like both! I'm trying to purchase a victorian home that was built in 1904 right now, but for the city i love the look and architecture of modern buildings.

I treasure the old, but I prefer houses to apartment buildings.

I'd love to find an old building that's been modernized and is SUPER clean. I love reveling in the past while enjoying the convenience of the present/future.

Old buildings are beautiful... but they're also OLD! Gross. Every old building I've lived in has either had vermin, out of date wiring (making everything more difficult), or... don't make fun of me... ghosts. That's right! Good old fashioned haunting. So I prefer a new building any day... couldn't pay me to live in an old building.

I adore old buildings. I traveled around Europe and just fell in love with the architecture. The villa in Italy where we stayed just was phenomenal and well-maintained. But our home is very modern right now... I sort of hate it.

I love love love old buildings. If anyone knows of a group that has started a petition here in SF to stop the new all glass and no character high rises please let me know.

i agree with those who love well maintained older builders with perhaps a few of the modern amenities. Nothing is more stunning than old accents with the convenience of an elevator.

This was our dilemma when looking for the place we are in now. We wanted an older building with alot of Chicago character... but with central air and new appliances, etc. We luckily found this place... and now I think there might be more of these around than when we were looking several years ago.

I love old buildings but currently live in a new one and have to say, the convenience and cleanliness of the new building is awesome. I think it just depends on the design. Some newer places are cheaply made and cramped, others are tech wonders and beautifully done. Some old places are tiny and moldy and others are stately and gorgeous. I'd probably go old if I had the dollars to do it well but for now, I'll take the extra space and modern convenience.
