We've been counting down the most biggest headlines of 2008, and we'll be revealing more throughout the month of December. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that created the most buzz throughout the year.
Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z had been together for six years before their hush-hush wedding in April. Rumors had been flying for years that they were finally going to make things official, and they reached fever pitch after reports emerged that they'd applied for a marriage license in New York State. Jay-Z was seen sharing a toast with friends after a show in Toronto on April 3, leading many to believe the big day was at hand. On April 4, (4/4/08 — Jay-Z and Beyonce share the lucky number 4) everyone was expecting a ceremony, especially since Beyonce's Destiny's Child bandmates released a video that looked possibly like a bachelorette party. Later that day, the story was confirmed — Jay-Z and Beyonce had tied the knot at his NYC apartment in front of family and friends, including Solange Knowles and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The celebration didn't last long, and by the next day Jay-Z was off to his next concert in NC. The obligatory pregnancy rumors were quick to follow, but so far it doesn't look like there's a little Carter on the way — though Jay-Z and Beyonce were said to have purchased a new family home in suburban NY. It wasn't until August that Beyonce finally gave everyone a peek at her blingin' wedding ring, a sure sign that she and Jay-Z are increasingly comfortable showing their love in public. Their wedding was a long time in the making, but hopefully the good times are just beginning for Beyonce and Jay-Z.
Robert Pattinson kept that signature messy hair tucked under his hat as he headed out of Il Sole in LA last night. He deserves a break after promoting his record-breaking Twilight around the world, but it's going to be a long time before your favorite rising star of 2008 is out of the spotlight. This a banner year for Robert, and while his on-screen romance with Kristen Stewart had you all swooning, he and the boys of Twilight are going to need some more votes if they want to pull ahead of the Jonas Brothers in time to take the title of Sexiest Group of the Year.
Celebrity Style: Amanda Peet Last night Amanda Peet showed off an ivory toggle coat she wore to the LA premiere of The Spirit. I love so many things about this French-inspired look. It's polished but not stiff, slightly casual but red-carpet appropriate. Underneath the coat, Amanda wore a black and gray striped top, a black mini skirt, and finished the look with opaque tights, black booties, and a black clutch. Trés chic indeed.
Cameron Diaz and Paul Sculfor were hand-in-hand earlier today for a walk around chilly NYC. It's not exactly the climate that California girl Cameron is used to, but she looked like a natural in her chic coat and hat. Cameron has been on the East Coast a lot recently celebrating the premiere of Shrek on Broadway and meeting up with friends, and if these two are sticking in NY through the holidays it looks like they'll be spending most of their time cuddled up to each other.
We've spent a lot of time soaking up celebrity baby cuteness, but will always have a special place in our hearts for Suri Cruise. From her impressive toy collection to her impeccable fashion sense, we've had a blast watching this toddler take her parents around NYC this year. Today is Katie's 30th birthday, so what better time to take a look back at our favorite Suri moments of 2008? Don't forget to check out all of our Best of 2008 coverage.
In this week's Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf demonstrates that there's nothing like a red sparkly dress to make you stand out at a party. Although her exact Marchesa dress isn't available online, this one is quite similar.
