Hayden Panettiere was back in activist mode last night to host a bash for Declare Yourself. The event brought out stars like Emily VanCamp, Zachary Quinto, and Danity Kane, but it looks like Jessica Alba and her slightly scary PSA skipped this one in favor of bikini time. Hayden took the stage to make a speech, though she was more low-key when asked who she'll be casting her ballot for on Nov. 5. She simply said, "I'm a Democrat, so . . . " The election is only a little more than a month away, but while we're waiting to change the world, we can watch Hayden's alter ego doing her part on Heroes, which is one of our 15 shows to watch now.

Tobey Maguire was looking slim on his way to a meeting in LA yesterday. The actor has been busy saving the world with Leonardo DiCaprio lately, and before he gets back to the business of being a superhero, he is making sure to factor in family time to his rumored Spider-Man sequels contract. Since the fourth and fifth movie are supposedly filming back-to-back for six months, Tobey wanted early mornings and evenings off so he could spend time with Ruby — so sweet, but no surprise coming from a guy who brought his family along for the Spider-Man 3 world tour.

The ladies of 90210 took a lunch break from filming the show yesterday, and the big news is that they were spotted with some food. Since the show's onset, there has been a lot of speculation about the stars' stick-thin frames, and it doesn't help that Shenae Grimes was spotted this week loading up on cigarettes. When asked about the situation, Shenae simply said that the girls "shake it off" when they hear about the buzz — like Penn Badgley commenting that the girls need to a eat double cheeseburger. While their show may still serve as a bad example for teenage girls to follow, it's somewhat reassuring to see the girls loading up on fruit between takes.

Amanda Bynes and Harry Connick Jr. attended the premiere of their new Lifetime TV movie Living Proof last night in NYC. Renee Zellweger was the executive producer on this project about Dr. Dennis Slamon, played by Harry, who developed the breast cancer drug Herceptin. The actress has a personal connection with the subject, recently revealing she had a breast cancer scare in 1996, with what luckily turned out to be benign tumors. The Lifetime movie premieres on Oct. 18, and Renee's story is a good reminder for all of us to keep up those monthly exams.
