Nicole Richie looked casually chic meeting up with some friends for lunch yesterday. Most of you decided that Nicole is still a bad girl at heart after her alleged Fourth of July troublemaking, but at least she's putting her old ways to good use. She's in talks to produce a TV show based on her 2005 fictional memoir, The Truth About Diamonds. Nicole says she would produce and act in the new TV show, although probably not star as the lead. She has changed a lot since her Simple Life partying days, and hopefully this new project will show the world how far Nicole has come.

David Beckham was down three members of his cheering squad last night, but luckily Tom Cruise was right there to step in. Tom's good deeds don't end with supporting his BFF on the soccer field — he also showed there's no bad blood between him and his ex Nicole Kidman, sending a huge baby basket to Nicole and Keith to celebrate the arrival of Sunday Rose from the whole Cruise family. While we're not holding our breath for a play date with Suri and Sunday, it's always nice to hear about blended families getting along and sharing in all the happy times.

After her cowboy-themed karaoke birthday party with Tony and her sister, Jessica Simpson was still showing off her Texas spirit yesterday at a b-day lunch with friends in LA. You can barely see Jess under her big hat, but that smile is unmistakable. She's got a lot to celebrate, because last night her father revealed that her country album has a release date, Sept. 9, and her video for "Come on Over" will premiere on her website this Saturday. Rather than sitting at her computer watching herself, Jessica will be on Lake Tahoe with Tony, who is playing in a celebrity charity golf tournament there, though he's planning on spending the weekend on the water with Jess hopefully showing off their bathing suit bodies.

Britney Spears put on her makeup and headed to the recording studio with Lynne last night. She's back in work mode these days, thanks in part to her upcoming video appearance on Madonna's Sticky and Sweet Tour. We're getting our first details from the video, which Britney shot in LA on Wednesday and apparently features the pop star screaming and having a temper tantrum in an elevator before saying, "It's Britney, b*tch" into the camera. It feels a little too soon for Britney to be poking fun at all her personal issues, but maybe this little video will be a sign of bigger and better Britney things to come — like a second chance at a solid VMA performance.
