Along with all the acting recognition Clooney has been receiving he also was just named a U.N. "messenger of peace." Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the honor thanking George for all his efforts with Darfur and for bringing awareness to "crucial international political and social issues." Funny how life imitates art with this Peacemaker.
Movie Preview: DefianceDefiance has been completely off my radar, but now that I've seen the trailer with the ultra-dreamy Daniel Craig, and knowing it comes from Edward Zwick, director of Blood Diamond (not to mention Legends of the Fall), I can't wait to see the movie this autumn.
American Idol finally returned this week, promising us months of new TV to watch during the drought. But while we were patiently waiting for its return, Paula was working on her own music for the first time in over 10 years. She doesn't have any plans to come out with an album as of yet, but check out the single she recorded for Randy Jackson's upcoming compilation album. The video for it is even rumored to be premiering at the Super Bowl in a few weeks. Check out Dance Like There's No Tomorrow and tell us — love it or leave it?
You'd think Isla Fisher was headed to Sundance from the way she was all bundled up last night, but she broke out the Winter gear to grab dinner at the Waverly Inn in NYC. We've got to hand it to her — even in Uggs, Isla always manages to look adorable. She's been spending most of her time with her new baby Olive these days, but we can't wait to see her definitely, maybe showing off her postpregnancy body at the premiere of her cute, new movie Definitely, Maybe.
Katherine Heigl was hard at work on her promotional tour hopping from talk show to talk show in New York yesterday morning. From Regis and Kelly to Martha Stewart, it's all in a day's work for the leading lady. Her 27 Dresses hits theaters today, and it sounds like my girl Buzz was pleasantly surprised by the generic chick flick. This one has guilty pleasure movie written all over it — and I don't think I'm the only one who's looking forward to it, heh. I may not love Heigl all the time, but she (and her hair) looks gorgeous. So, who's making it a girls' night out with 27 Dresses tonight?
Tom Cruise's name was all over the press this week between his controversial Scientology videos and helping Katie promote Mad Money in NYC, but he still found time for the important stuff, like taking his son Connor to dinner for his 13th birthday back in LA last night. Katie's movie hits the theaters today, and she chatted with Ryan Seacrest this morning about why she picked this movie over Batman and how much she loves acting. She also talked about how much she loves the Beckhams and dished about being married "to the biggest movie star in the world." Even though this is Katie's time to shine, Tom never really leaves the spotlight, now does he?
Leonardo DiCaprio and his buddy Lukas Haas do everything together these days, and last night it was a courtside seats at the Lakers/Suns game in LA. Besties! From Paris to the Caribbean to Knot's Berry Farm, we rarely see Leo without Lukas by his side and vice versa. Unfortunately for the boys, the Lakers lost last night, but there's no way to complain when you're getting that kind of view of the game. It sounds like Leo is keeping himself very busy with projects these days (Lukas not so much), so methinks we'll be seeing a lot more of these boys all through 2008.
Singer and actress Selena Gomez posed for pictures at the 2009 American Music Awards with a pretty pink smile on her face. She took advantage of the occasion and went glam; wearing a Talbot Runhof sequin dress with black strappy heels.
