For the next 10 days, we're highlighting our most shocking stories of the year as part of our Best of 2007 coverage. We hope you enjoy this look back at some of the posts and stories that we certainly weren't expecting to see.
While the end of 2006 brought both lifetime highs — the birth of Dannielynn, her wedding to Howard K. Stern — and lows — the death of her son Daniel — to Anna Nicole Smith, everyone hoped that 2007 would finally be a time of peace. Sadly, this was never to be, as she unexpectedly passed away on February 8 in a situation that seemed scarily shady from the get go. From that moment we were thrust into a 24/7 new cycle of Anna stories from the questionable paternity of her child to a judge who was all about the showmanship. No one was shocked when Larry Birkhead turned out to be the father and, somehow, the unlikely hero of the whole mess. He seems to be living peacefully and happily with his daughter now, while Howard K. Stern remains a part of her life. Anna Nicole Smith will always be remembered as one of the biggest headlines of this year, and hopefully in 2008 she will finally rest in peace.
Janet Jackson has a new album coming that's due out in February, and we've got the first single right here. The song, which premiered on Z100 this morning, is called "Feedback" and it's an upbeat dance track. We have a feeling that we'll be hearing more of this one all over the place in the coming months. Give it a listen below and tell us — love it or leave it?
Love It or Hate It? Jada Pinkett Smith's Curly Coif Last night at the I Am Legend Premiere in New York, Jada Pinkett Smith arrived on the red carpet with an Oprah Winfrey-esque, curly coif. It's undeniable that Jada's got style, but is this hairstyle making her look older than she really is?
The ladies of Sex and the City got together for a dinner at Nobu in LA last night. The foursome don't look quite as chic as their on-screen counterparts (we can't imagine Charlotte wearing snow boots), but we love that they're still hanging out together even when off camera. Yesterday we heard that there is already talk of movie sequels, but perhaps the producers should wait to see how their first film fares at the box office.
Apparently, they went over the movie's budget and had to shoot some scenes in California instead of in Mexico, which was the original plan. The cast and crew of the movie might also want to try a little harder to keep their plot lines under wraps the next time around. Yet another spoiler has leaked, and this one describes the very last scene of the movie. For the not-so-shocking details, just read more
Which Celebrity Phone Case Did You Like Best in 2007? Cell phone gel cases are becoming so trendy that I just had to include one in my "must haves" list for December. Almost as popular as pinkberry in Hollywood, colorful gel cases are becoming the hottest phone accessory this holiday season.
Ashley Judd was bundled waaaaaay up shooting Helen up in Vancouver on Monday. She won't be up there for long, however, because she's set to get glammed up bright and early on Thursday morning to help Hayden Panettiere announce the Golden Globe nominees. I'm getting pretty excited to learn who scores big this year — the Golden Globes are always a fun group and a good signifier for who's gonna get those Oscar nods. You've all seemed pretty split about your favorite performances, films and shows of the year, so now we'll just sit tight and see whose names are on the list. Unfortunately, the award ceremony is facing an uncertain future. The SAG Awards asked the WGA to refrain from picketing their show and allow a writer to help out and the WGA complied. The Golden Globes asked for the same allowance, but have yet to hear back. At the very least, this should make for an interesting award season.
Rihanna bundled up for her appearance on The Late Show and looked perfectly chic while waving to her New York fans. She kept things simple in all black but mixed patterns and textures to create a unique look.
