Ashlee Simpson showed off her sultry eyes (but no smiles) for the December issue of Cosmo Girl. She's got a new album coming out this month and a new found confidence to go along with it. I must say that I've always had a soft spot for Ash, despite all her ridiculousness, so I'm giving her a big high five for being (or at least seeming) happy. In the magazine she talks about her new music, and her boy Pete. Here's a highlight from her interview:

People expected me to do even more of a rock record because of Pete, but I went in the opposite direction. This is a fun party album, and I get to be kind of cheeky for the first time — silly and quirky, like my friends and I can be sometimes. For me, the music on the album just came naturally. I trusted my instincts, and I'm proud about the results. It's a record in which I'm saying, 'I am woman and I won't take anyone's s***.' I felt free to be fun and crazy and sexy, and that's what I did. Pete's not on this record at all — we're so different musically. He likes to do his own thing and I do my own. He listened to it, though, as I was making it. I couldn't not let him listen to it! He's a great sounding board and very supportive. Pete and I complement each other. We are best friends and we encourage each other. I think that is so important in any relationship — it builds a solid foundation."

We've seen lots of David Beckham recently, but shirtless Becks is still a special Manjoyment treat. Even though the Galaxy lost to Sydney FC last night, you wouldn't know it from the grin on David's face. Unfortunately, Becks played in pain, clutching his ankle near the beginning of the game but insisting on staying in, even scoring a goal. He said, "I was really happy to score tonight because of the amount of fans and the attention that there has been on myself and this game tonight, so I was really pleased." Becks has had a few ups and downs lately, so we're happy to hear that last night he had a chance to shine.

Unlikely pair Lisa Kudrow and Zach Braff were up bright and early in LA this morning to announce the nominees for the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards. Award season is so underway. The impossibly adorable looking Juno and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly led the way with four nominations each, followed by I'm Not There with three. The best actress category is particularly exciting with both Angelina Jolie and Sienna Miller snagging nods. Check out the full list of nominees here. As for Lisa and Zach, it looks like they may have struck up a friendship while out protesting on behalf of the striking writers earlier this month.

After a very public lunch out with Nicky and Nicole, Paris Hilton picked up her boy toy Alex Vaggo for a movie at The Grove last night. I figured she had surely gotten rid of her Swedish import because we haven't seen him by her side since late September while she's been traipsing around the world. But her plucked from obscurity "male model" has more staying power than I thought. It looks like he got a new haircut and chiseled out those cheekbones, too. Well played, Mr. Vaggo.

After her fun filled week in NYC, Jessica Simpson headed back home to Texas, but there was no home-cooked Thanksgiving meal for the Simpsons. Instead, they gathered with 25 of their closest friends, including Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, at Dragonfly restaurant. Jessica and Tony have hung out before, and we know how he likes to get his name around Hollywood, but Jessica might be looking for more than just a fling. Apparently she came out to cheer for him at his game on Thursday, and is already referring to him as "her man" and telling her friends that they are dating. We're still not totally convinced about this possible new couple, but we do know that Papa Joe approves and Jessica is very much on the market for a new man, so a home state QB hero could be just who she's looking for.
