John Mayer headed out to the streets of NYC last night after having dinner with friends at the Waverly Inn. Looking at him all bundled up in his scarf with that smug smile on his face, we can't help but think about how he's changed in our eyes over the the past year. We're not sure if it's the celebrity girlfriends, or the way his style seems to have cleaned up, but this singer has grown on us quite a bit. Of course we can't forget the haircut, which many of you attribute to his sudden surge of hotness. It's the end of the year so you know what that means! Stay tuned for all our year end coverage and fun lists. Looks like John is making it on the most improved in 2007 list.

Katherine Heigl turned 29 on Saturday and celebrated at Nobu in Malibu alongside her mom and two favorite men, fiance Josh Kelley and newly short-haired T.R. Knight. After dinner she was treated to a mini birthday cake outside, courtesy of the waiting paparazzi. Katherine has lots to smile about these days with her movie career, hit show and wedding less than a month away. She was even named one of EW's Most Popular Stars of 2007, which seems just perfect for the bubbly blonde rising star - then why is it I find her so annoying?

Hayden Panettiere has struck stardom this year thanks to her hit Heroes and now being named GQ's obsession of the year (could they go any younger?). We liked her all innocent but as she gets older and more nude, we're afraid we will be disappointed by what's to come. She does seem like a hard-working, laid-back, family girl, but she is also talking Prius' and still driving a Porsche Cayenne. That said, while everyone loves a vacation, we bet Hayden has been itching for the writers' strike to end so that she can get back to work with her favorite boys on Heroes. Plus, we can't wait to see what her character, Claire does next on the show especially after last night's episode.

Now that she's back in LA, Lindsay is up to her routine of afternoon coffee runs and smile inducing pinkberry. No matter the coast, two things are constant: the paparazzi and LL's leggings. She made a seamless transition from coats and scarves to a more California-friendly tank top to go with her legwear of choice. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of her meandering around town with Riley trailing right behind. Unfortunately, her boy may not have been so well behaved on the trip to NYC to meet her family. Apparently while Linds spent her nights in with her relatives, Riley was all about hitting the clubs without her. She's stayed away from those sorts of activities since getting out of rehab, hopefully if he turns into a party boy again, she can ditch him before picking up old habits.

Posh, Sporty, Baby and Ginger Spices were out en masse and in black and white to support their girl Scary at her finale performance for Dancing with the Stars last night. Girl Power, eh? All five of the girls have been rehearsing their tails off for their impending reunion tour, but Mel B must be the most stage ready after these weeks of televised dancing. She's wowed the judges the whole time and last night was no exception — with her girls cheering loud from the front row she and her partner got the highest score of the night, 55 out of 60, beating out Helio Castroneves (54 points) and Marie Osmond (46 points). The winner will be announced tonight, so hopefully, Victoria had her whole fleet of boys hitting the speed dial voting for Mel. Who do you think should win? We all know she's got her couples moves down, but after tonight it's back to group choreography to wow all their fans.

Britney Spears looked a little somber (and no, she's not topless, just an off the shoulder shirt) driving into her current home, the Four Seasons, in LA last night. Yesterday was big for Brit's legal team — they were granted their continuance until January in her driving case (though almost 80% of you think she should be on probation) and they worked out the Christmas custody details with Kevin's lawyer. Britney will apparently be getting the boys for the holiday since Kevin got them for Thanksgiving dinner, seems fair. Other issues involving the DCFS were discussed, but not disclosed, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 23. I'm sure we'll see them in court before then. Elsewhere in Britney news, she's supposedly shooting her video for "Piece of Me" today between the hours of noon and 2, with 15 backup dancers and a body double. After the drama of her last shoot, hopefully, this one goes better.

Oh, and one more bit of Britney news about her rumored new man, Michael Marchand. According to OK!, he isn't anything romantic after all. Ah, well.

David Beckham did his best to turn his time in Sydney into a little vacation yesterday, relaxing on a yacht and signing autographs for fans before his big game with the Galaxy. Becks looks happy to be fulfilling his duties around the world, but spending all this time away from his family gets tough. Yesterday he stopped by This Morning, an ITV talk show where he couldn't help but gush about his adorable boys. Here are highlights:

- On the boys' accents:
"They sound as if they are from London and that is how I want them to sound, but they are getting little parts of an American accent."
- On taking the boys to see the Spice Girls:
"Victoria says, 'All our boys know what daddy does, he plays football in front of all these people, but they have never seen what mummy used to do' and so that was one of the reasons why she wanted to do it and it will be amazing, all the boys are going to love it.
- On the family's Christmas plans:
"We are going to be back in England, I love London, I love being back in England, I love being back in London, it is where I am from and where Victoria is from and Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without being back here."
As much as we love having the Beckhams here in the states, it seems as if it's never going to be a place they call home. The good news is America is rubbing off on them a little as David revealed that his son Romeo is using words like "awesome" and is the performer of the family even dubbing him the next Justin Timberlake. Cute - we can envision it now!
