Russell Crowe and his wife Danielle looked like a perfectly athletic (bunny loving!) couple out on Sunset Boulevard with little Tennyson and Charles yesterday morning after their big LA premiere of American Gangster. We got a glimpse into Denzel, Russell and their banter off screen and I can't wait to see how they work together in the movie. Russell had some great sound bites of his own in that EW article — on playing real people and working with Ridley Scott. Here's highlights:
On playing real life people: It's incredible when you've actually got the source, still alive, still erudite, still willing to discuss things with you and give you details. A lot of it is osmosis, though, man. You can pretend you're shaping it and putting it together, but if I spend enough time with someone, I pick stuff up I'm not really fully conscious of. You just do your best to get some sort of accuracy. You're not a slave to it, but you don't want the person you're playing to scoff at the end and say, ''That's nothing like me.''
On working with Ridley Scott for the third time: Ridley and I have perfected the art of the wordless argument. He'll look at me across the room and nudge his head one way and I'll go, ''No,'' then he'll open his eyes a bit wider and look that way and nod and I'll go, ''Uh-huh'' — and we've just worked out the blocking of the scene. It saves a lot of time.
If any actors could make a living historical figure proud, I'm sure Denzel and Russell are the men for the job. As much as reading this interview has shown me a funny side of the intense actors, methinks the movie's not going to be a laugh riot. I just hope it lives up to all the hype. Battle of The Hills Costumes: Madonna vs. Sexy Sailor Girl Our favorite reality stars, Audrina Patridge and Lauren Conrad from The Hills dressed up for Halloween! Audrina makes a rad Madonna circa the '80s. I love the pearls; now this is the right time to sport leggings. LC went for a sexy sailor look, hat and all.
Thandie Newton and Jessica Biel were all about sheer at last night's LA screening of Darfur Now. Thandie looks gorgeous in her dress but Biel's see through top and blazer don't do her justice. The film involved celebrities like Don Cheadle and George Clooney and raises awareness about the situation in Darfur. While the men didn't make it to the screening, Thandie talked about the importance of using fame for good. She said, "I think there needs to be much more of a sense of responsibility when we use the power of entertainment to affect people's lives. I think we're in a really fortunate position that there are many film makers and very popular actors that want to make a difference." Of all the celebrity trends these days, raising awareness and philanthropy have to be some of our favorites.
Britney Spears kept her plumped lips covered on her way into a friend's house wearing a surprisingly modest gray sweater dress last night. In fact, by Britney's standards the night of her record release was pretty low key, perhaps made a little more somber by the news about her boys yesterday afternoon. This morning she was up fairly early, however, to chat with Ryan Seacrest...begrudgingly. The audio is below, but suffice it to say that Britney does not have a whole lot of management telling her what to say in interviews these days.
There are a lot of "huh?" and "what" (partially due to bad cell phone reception), but the worst moment for me was when Ryan asked how often she's going to be able to see her kids and she obviously didn't know, instead saying that her "lawyers handle all that stuff." Ugh, there are millions of people who could answer that question better than her. She also said that this was the extent of her album promotion before handing the phone to Allie to jump in the shower. Give it a listen yourself and tell me what you think.
On Air With Ryan Seacrest interview with Britney Spears
In other Britney news, another of her old assistants has decided to sell tell her story, this time to Us Weekly. She was there for Brit's break-up with Kevin and has all sorts of personal details to share about Britney's breakdown. Ugh, shut up.
Celebrity Style: Jennifer Connelly Here, while paying a visit to the Late Show with David Letterman, Jennifer Connelly shows us that all black is not all boring. The cropped jacket with oversized buttons adds texture to the ensemble. The key to not looking drab in all black is to mix up different textures, like wool with leather with satin, á la Jennifer.
Paris Hilton hit fashion designer Kira Plastinina’s runway show in Russia on Monday, but the trip wasn't just for pleasure. Just for sitting in the front row, Paris scored $2 million for her ability to draw a crowd. She's also rumored to be making $1 million to take over hosting duties for Lindsay at the LAX New Year's Eve bash in Vegas, not a bad paycheck just to throw a party. So tell us — do you think Paris is worth all the cash?
Kate Moss was all smiles leaving the SingStar Take That Extravaganza in London. She took a casual approach to the night, opting for patent leather flats and mixed-matched blacks.
