Brad Pitt is back on the set of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in Montreal and Angelina has had to take over walking the kids to school duty. The two are probably glad that they've left the craziness that is Cannes and are back to their every day lives. While they definitely had a good time at the festival, one night wasn't so fun. Kid Rock was DJing at the Hotel Du Cap where the Jolie-Pitts were staying and his party kept them up until 5 AM. Apparently Brad and Angie both called down to complain since their kids were crying from all the noise. A source says, "Staff then begged Kid Rock to at least turn it down but he refused - and made it clear that he'd keep DJing as long as he felt like doing so." Then a hotel staff member stopped by the Jolie-Pitt's room with earplugs but no word on if that actually solved the problem.
Before things got seriously crazy this weekend, two starlets calmly grabbed some coffee in LA. This was before Lindsay DUI-ed and went back to rehab, before Mischa was in and out of the hospital under shady circumstances, but presumably after Nicole Richie sent out an invitation for her Sunday afternoon Memorial Day BBQ, thrown with her friend Masha. Her email invitation somehow leaked and let me just say, the girl knows how to write a completely ridiculous party invite (see the whole thing here). She coaxed people to her friend's place to "glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your tightest pair of tsubi jeans, even though we have no [bleeping] clue what Memorial Day really means!!" Wow, and that's not the end of it. She added, "There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now." Here's what her publicist had to say in response:
“This invitation was sent via email to her friends who understand that she was responding in a joking manner to the constant untruths printed about her in the media. Her reference to Memorial Day was in no way meant to offend anyone but was simply an expression of her distaste for the current situation.”
A joke, eh? She's got quite the sense of humor. But really, I sincerely doubt that "mocking the media" was Nicole's original intention, but nice try spinning that one, Nicole's rep! Sarcastic or not, things are clearly teetering on the edge of disaster for the starlet set. I just hope it doesn't take anything scarier than what happened this weekend to snap them out of it.
Yesterday morning, before it became really official that Lindsay Lohan had checked herself into Promises in Malibu, the news emerged that she was at least official for one thing -- her new movie, Poor Things, co-starring Shirley MacLaine and Olympia Dukakis.
I imagine the producers probably would have liked to work the timing better. The film is scheduled to start filming this week, which may be difficult seeing as Linds is in rehab, but all details as to what that will mean for the movie are still pretty vague. She sounds like a bit (or a lot) of a liability, but perhaps some people want the press. As for Lindsay's time in rehab, her publicist finally issued an official statement:
"Lindsay admitted herself to an intensive medical rehabilitation facility on Memorial Day. Because this is a medical matter, it is our hope that the press will appreciate the seriousness of the situation and respect the privacy of Lindsay as well as the other patients receiving treatment at the facility."
Official statements are good, but hopefully Linds can actually find a way to get healthy this time. Looks like she needs it.
Debra Messing has been busy promoting The Starter Wife but she took a break to help nurse her sore thumb with a little iced coffee and shopping in Soho last weekend. The mini series, which premieres on USA this Thursday, stays in the comedic realm that Debra is used to from her Will & Grace days, but the filming experience was very different. She said, "In The Starter Wife, we shot it like a film, we shot it out of order, it was 4 months, 6 hours worth of film, so there was the luxury of time to tell the story. So I think the comedy comes out of character more and there is more of a balance between the drama and the comedy."
