The "Godfather of Soul" has passed away at 73 years old this morning after checking into the hospital this weekend with pneumonia. Brown died of heart failure at 1:45 a.m. Monday. His agent said he felt fine at the hospital and that he still planned on being on stage in NY on New Years. As his friend Jesse Jackson said: "He was dramatic to the end — dying on Christmas Day... Almost a dramatic, poetic moment. He'll be all over the news all over the world today. He would have it no other way." Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
We've been posting some of the biggest headlines of 2006 like the obvious babies, wedding, break ups as well as remembering some of the scandals like Denise and Heather, James Frey and Mel Gibson. We went out on the street to ask you for more and here is what you all said:
We all fell in love with James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. His tale of despair, drugs, and finally redemption was addicting to read and an inspiration to many. Oprah loved the book so much she gave it a coveted spot in her Book Club. Unfortunately, we soon found out that most of the million pieces that made up his memoir were lies. At first Oprah went on Larry King and said that everyone was making "much ado about nothing." But soon after she changed her tune and gave Frey a verbal ass-kicking on her show. Soon after his agent and publisher dumped him. Many felt betrayed but we were entertained.
Scarlett was spotted trying to hide under her hood at the airport. Maybe Scarlett and Josh just don't really want us to know whether they are on-again or off-again, but we will be getting more of the two on screen soon. The Black Dahlia, the movie the two did together will be available on DVD December 26th.
Celebs are no strangers to controversy, but a few completely lost their heads this year and found themselves in more trouble than they (or we) ever could have expected. We were absolutely shocked when Mel Gibson was pulled over for drunk driving and proceeded to verbally attack everyone around him with anti-Semitic and sexist remarks. Similarly Michael Richards went on a racist rant on two African American men at an LA nightclub. Both men have since apologized but the damage has been done. Their lovable images are tarnished and it's doubtful either of their careers will ever fully recover.
Beyonce looks beautiful in the January issue of InStyle. In the interview she openly answers questions about her weight, her future with Jay-Z and other interesting facts. She lets us know that she has big dreams yet she she still takes her fame in stride. Here's highlights:
On what she would be if she weren't a performer:
I grew up in my mom's hair salon, so I'm a frustrated hairstylist. My stylist always tells me: 'Can you just sit down and let me do my job? I don't tell you how to sing.'"
On what headline she'd like to see for herself:
Beyonce Wins an Oscar, Nine Grammys and a Tony.' But I have time.
The weirdest thing in her fridge:
These little Soy Dream ice-cream sandwiches. They're so good, I eat one every night.
On losing weight for Dreamgirls:
[It] was fun for about a month. I could fit into dresses I could never wear before. But then guys started saying, 'Where you at? That's not Beyonce!' And they were right. I saw pictures and didn't like the way I looked. I couldn't wait to eat and put some weight back on."
Those ice cream sandwiches were probably a good place to start. For the rest of the article just read more
