The sun rose today and that means Pete Doherty was back in court. This time he was fined $1,400 for physically assaulting a journalist earlier in the year. No, it wasn't for the bloody paparazzi brawl from last month. That's a separate incident. Don't the press know by now to leave Pete Doherty alone? He only attacks when provoked! Here's more:

Doherty admitted that he kicked BBC reporter Trudi Barber and knocked a microphone out of her hand before he sprinted away from reporters, jumped into his Jaguar and sped away.

The singer had pleaded innocent to assault, but changed his plea after watching television footage of the incident, his lawyer, Sean Curran, said.

Justice Helen Skinner also ordered Doherty to pay $475 in compensation and $380 in court costs.

Doherty, the on-off boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, appeared in court wearing a black coat and clutching a black trilby hat. He told the court he could not pay the fine Wednesday because he had only 50 cents with him.

He apologized for the incident, but called Barber part of the "harassing scum of press."

Nicole supposedly checked herself into rehab for not having an eating disorder, but is clearly not working hard at getting healthy. She denied collapsing at Hyde last week and has spent a ton of time shopping and hanging out with her on-again friend Paris, so we're just trying to figure out how she can gain some weight in between all these activities. Now we hear more about Nicole partying hard and drinking as well as camping out at the Beverly Hills Hotel. L&S reports:

Nicole — who weighs just 89 pounds — was with on-again best friend Paris Hilton, 25, and began “knocking back cocktails,” says a witness. “She didn’t look like someone who was taking her recovery very seriously.” And though Nicole later told Life & Style, “I’m doing fine,” she’s done little to change her ways. “We’re just wondering how long it’s going to be before she has a complete physical breakdown,” says an insider. When she’s not clubbing, Nicole’s staying at the luxe Beverly Hills Hotel. “She never talks about a treatment center,” says a friend of hers. “It either doesn’t exist, or she’s being very quiet about it. She’s get­ting some help, but it’s just occasional outpatient counseling. When she’s not in therapy, she’s living her life as if nothing has changed.”Even dad Lionel Richie, 57, is at a loss. “He doesn’t know what it’s going to take for Nicole to get serious about her health,” says a family friend.The answer may lie with her ex-fiancé, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, 33, who is determined to help Nicole and took her out shopping in LA on Nov. 3. “They’ve been talking a lot,” says an insider. “He’s telling her they can get back togeth­er if she gets better.” But does he mean it? “Maybe,” the insider says. “At this point, he’ll say whatever he has to in order to get through to her.”

Britney filed for divorce yesterday behind K-Fed's back and is seeking sole custody of Sean P and Jayden. Brit then reunited with her old manager for a little fun ice skating outing to show off her smiles. Now TMZ reports that Kevin is thinking of challenging custody of the kids - it may be his only hope in cashing in on Britney's fortune. Brit has acted as the primary parent to Sean and Jayden while K-Fed is trying unsuccessfully to sell records, so it seems unlikely that the father of 4 has any hope in winning this battle. And we're also hearing that Brit may just be a bit smarter than people gave her credit for. Filing papers this week was perfectly timed to ensure Kevin got just a little less of her money. She filed two years and one month from the day of her marriage, on Oct. 6, 2004. Her prenup, according to legal theorists, evidently carried increases for Federline for every year of their marriage. And those deadlines, they say, likely had 30-day grace periods.

Hence, Nov. 6 would have been Britney's last chance to get out of paying a third year of alimony settlement to a basically talentless slacker who was a drain on her finances.

And in the end, money is probably what Spears’ divorce is all about. Since she deliberately showed off a new trim body on David Letterman’s show the other night, Spears is obviously getting ready to go back to work. If a new album and tour are on the boards, Spears obviously doesn't want to share the proceeds with Federline. It was clearly better to get out now, so that K-Fed can lay claim to only half of Spears’ earnings during what has been the most fallow period in her career.

Heath isn't looking his best here at a screening of his new film, Candy, but luckily he can blame it on the acting thing. He's been avoiding the sun for the past few months since his latest role is as a heroin addict in the film that also stars Abbie Cornish (you know her most recently as the girl who may or may not have had an affair with Ryan Phillippe). Somehow he is so much cuter when he is with his fiancee and daughter.

Daniel Dae Kim and Henry Ian Cusick of Lost made time to stop by Sunday night's Gala event for World Festival: Hawaii's Fashion Week. There they met up with Gabrielle Union, Jasmine Trias of American Idol, and Steve Kemble of Us Weekly's Fashion Police. The World Festival takes place every year at the Ala Moana Center where upscale retailers like Dior and Louis Vuitton unveiled new collections, some exclusively for Hawaii. No wonder the Lost boys showed up! Take a good look because this may be one of the last pics you see of them for awhile. After tonight, Lost is going on a 13 week hiatus. Boo.
