What do you do if you are the new editor of a b-list women's magazine - you go after the celebrities. To make a statement Marie Claire is not only changing its look from the hideous bright color cover scheme, they are also expanding the letters this month to bash Ashlee Simpson. They have every right to do this since Ashlee was interviewed in last month's issue to talk about loving one's body and then going and getting a nose job. NY Times reports:

Ashlee Simpson appeared on the July cover of Marie Claire magazine extolling the virtues of appreciating one’s body as it is — then she had a nose job.

Marie Claire readers erupted in fury at what they said was Ms. Simpson’s hypocrisy and the magazine’s “cluelessness.” They wrote 1,000 letters in protest to the magazine, according to Joanna Coles, the new editor of the magazine. And she agreed with them.

In the first issue (due Aug. 15) over which she exercises full editorial control, Ms. Coles gives expanded space in the letters column to readers to vent against Ms. Simpson. Ms. Coles adds in a note: “We’re dazed and confused — and disappointed — by her choice, too!”

Sounds like an interesting reason to check out Marie Claire this month besides the fact that Maggie Gyllenhaal is making the cover look much cooler than it has in years.

Apparently we have it all wrong. The image that Ms Lohan has created of her partying like a wild child is no longer the young lady we should be picturing..... and it all has to do with her new beau Harry. We heard rumors that he was really clean and didn't drink or do drugs but now we know why and it makes sense. R&M report:

There's a reason Harry Morton is such a good influence on Lindsay Lohan. Morton's half-sister, the model turned bounty hunter Domino Harvey, died around this time last year of what was largely suspected to be a drug overdose, after years of battling substance abuse.

Now he wants Lohan to practice sobriety, too, says a pal, who adds that the teen queen has since vowed to friends "she will stay away from booze altogether."

Friends of Lohan say that studio exec James Robinson's angry letter to the starlet, accusing her of missing filming due to wild partying, couldn't have come at a worse time.

Morton, heir to the Hard Rock fortune, has been a good influence on her all around, friends agree.

"She's not drinking," said another surprised source. "I've never seen her so healthy and happy."

If it's true then we couldn't be happier to see these two together. We'd love for LL to clean up her act and just be that talented actress she was known for when she first hit the scene. Aw, how cute. Nick is carrying Vanessa's LV bag. Jessica really lost a good guy and Vanessa got lucky by landing the heartbroken sensitive Nick. These two are really working hard at flying coast to coast to make their long distance relationship work. However, from the look of these pictures they are being very calculated about not getting too close to one another.

Christina is on the cover of September's Seventeen magazine. In the issue she says she wants to open a shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Apparently she has already started by donating her personal belongings to shelters in Pittsburgh. Here's more:

"Some of these women leave their homes without anything," she said. "They just grab the kids and get out of the situation. And so a lot of these women have nothing, and they have to start from scratch." But beyond helping provide necessities, the singer says, it's also important to help rebuild their self-esteem — "because it's really broken after they've been beaten down for so long." Aguilera addresses the theme of domestic abuse on several songs on her new album, but her next single is more of a feel-good number called "Candyman."

It has been officially confirmed that Heath Ledger will be The Joker in the next Batman movie. Christian Bale will return as Batman but no word on Katie Holmes yet. Earlier reports included her in the sequel but this time the announcement is all about Heath. The good news for Michelle is that Heath will most likely have to shave that beard for the role.
