Who Should Win the Emmy For Best Lead Actress, Comedy?

The Primetime Emmys are coming up fast, but before the big night, I want you guys to tell me should win (be sure to test your knowledge of past winners with my new game).

The Primetime Emmys are coming up fast, but before the big night, I want you guys to tell me should win (be sure to test your knowledge of past winners with my new game). You've been doing a great job so far and I've incorporated your feedback into my Emmy breakdowns.

Now I want you take aim at the lead actress in a comedy category: which of these funny ladies deserves the statue? There's Glee star Lea Michele, a first-time nominee; Edie Falco, who's new to the comedy category but not Emmy nominations (she won the drama award three times for The Sopranos); and Amy Poehler, who's been up for supporting actress for Saturday Night Live, but this is her first time in the running for lead for Parks and Recreation. Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been nominated the last four years in a row, but this'll be her last chance to win for The New Adventures of Old Christine. The other rivals for the Emmy are Toni Collette and Tina Fey, who have each won the Emmy once for their respective series, The United States of Tara and 30 Rock. Who do you want to win? Tell me in the comments, and then head over to my ballot for a chance to win an iPad!

2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

NPH Hosts and Jokes His Way Through Mad Men, 30 Rock's Big Emmy Night!

Neil Patrick Harris was the star of the night at yesterday's Primetime Emmy Awards.

Neil Patrick Harris was the star of the night at yesterday's Primetime Emmy Awards. He hosted the long show and managed to keep things interesting with his constant jokes and hours of preparation looking up the tiniest, most obscure roles on all the presenters' resumes to introduce them with. Check out all the winners here. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester looked gorgeous together as they took the stage to hand out an Emmy, though their show might not ever be up for any. Jessica Lange beat out her costar Drew Barrymore but the close friends looked overjoyed and the night's cutest acceptance speech might just go to a teary Kristin Chenoweth.

Justin Timberlake was all over the awards with his multiple nominations, though he didn't take any home he did win an Emmy last weekend. Heidi Klum and Seal shared a kiss in the audience, which is a lot less stressful than where she was last year up on stage as one of the hosts. Mad Men and 30 Rock took home the awards for best Drama and Comedy series respectively, but Jon Hamm and Tina Fey didn't win Actor or Actress. While the show was up against some tough competition with Sunday Night Football, NPH did a great job keeping the awards fun, funny and livelier than they've been in years.

2009 Primetime Emmy Awards: Julia-Louis Dreyfus

It's been almost two years since we've seen Julia-Louis Dreyfus on Bella.

It's been almost two years since we've seen Julia-Louis Dreyfus on Bella. In fact, it was exactly two years ago, at the 2007 Emmys. Does the actress ever age? At 48, she looks almost exactly the same as in her beginning days on Seinfeld back in the late 1980s. Julia-Louis has never been one to go for the bold and daring when it comes to hair and makeup, so I'm not surprised to see her sporting some soft, simple curls, along with a more neutral makeup palette. She's up for an award for her role in The New Adventures of Old Christine, but does she get your nomination for a beauty award, too?

The Cast of Seinfeld Puts Their Reunion on the Cover of EW

We've known about the Seinfeld reunion on the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for a while now, but there's something about seeing the foursome all together again in Entertainment Weekly that's making me feel extra nostalgic.

We've known about the Seinfeld reunion on the upcoming season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for a while now, but there's something about seeing the foursome all together again in Entertainment Weekly that's making me feel extra nostalgic. (It's almost enough to make me forget about that whole Michael Richards incident from a few years back — almost). In the article, the cast dishes about what we can expect from their stint on Curb (including a revisit to Jerry's apartment and Monk's diner!) and how it feels to have the gang back together. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus on being back together: "It’s the anti-reunion reunion, and I’d like to copyright that."
  • Jason Alexander on playing George again: "Just before we shot that scene, I said to Jerry and Julia, ‘I don’t know if I can be George. I haven’t tried him on in a while,' and it was freaky how it just came right back out."
  • Michael Richards on seeing his former costars again: "I did feel like I was in the company of good friends. It's like, Larry and Jerry are in the front seat, Julia and Jason are in the backseat, and I'm back there in the corner and I'm like a big dog. The window's open, and my head's hanging out the window and I'm feeling all that good air on my face. And I'm just so happy that we're all together, going someplace."

I've drifted in and out of watching Curb for the last few seasons, but, like many of you, I can't wait to see the Seinfeld crew again. Jerry and Larry David also make it clear that there won't be another reunion, so this should be one for the books. Giddyup.

Funny Ladies: Ageism Is No Joke

It ain't easy being a funny woman in Hollywood.

It ain't easy being a funny woman in Hollywood. We've often heard how few good roles are written for women over 35, but the facts really hit home in this video from The Hollywood Reporter's Emmy roundtable featuring women in comedy.

In it, Sarah Silverman talks about auditioning to play Jonah Hill's mother, and Amy Poehler points out that she was just eight years older than Rachel McAdams, who played her daughter in Mean Girls. Not surprisingly, the women lighten the weighty topic with plenty of humor. When Christina Applegate says she was told she was too old for a magazine cover, Silverman jokes "and it was More!"

But seriously, why are women this awesome so often considered over the hill? Why is it easier for men to grow older in Tinseltown?

Leo, Cameron and Jon Stay Eco-Friendly and Smiling

Environmentally-conscious celebrities headed to the National Resources Defense Council's 20th Anniversary party in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. It was no surprise to see two of our favorite eco-loving celebrities Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio walking the red carpet. Cameron's also had some fun movie news to celebrate — she's in talks to star in a legal comedy called Bobbie Sue. Jon Hamm was also there showing off some scruff while still looking dapper in his suit. Earth Day was on the 22nd and a party celebrating our natural resources was the perfect way to end a particularly environmental week.

NPH Hosts the Star-Studded TV Land Awards

Neil Patrick Harris played captain at last night's TV Land Awards in LA, bringing together stars for yet another night to celebrate classic television.

Neil Patrick Harris played captain at last night's TV Land Awards in LA, bringing together stars for yet another night to celebrate classic television. Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell were just two of the comedic actors who helped liven up the evening along with stars like Teri Hatcher, who also made time to attend Saturday's attending the GLAAD Awards. Matthew McConaughey wore his award show uniform after spending Saturday promoting Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Jennifer Garner, joking with the press about marriage and raising kids in Hollywood. The awards show won't air until April 26, but it looks like it has the potential for a lot of laughs with the fun group of celebrities who attended.
