SNL News: Jenny Slate Swears Herself In, Darrell Hammond May Be Out

New cast member Jenny Slate went from virtual unknown to Internet phenomenon on her first-ever episode of Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

New cast member Jenny Slate went from virtual unknown to Internet phenomenon on her first-ever episode of Saturday Night Live over the weekend. She dropped a now infamous "F-Bomb" during a biker-chick sketch that had her saying "freaking" about 50 times — you can barely blame her, it's a pretty easy slip, especially for someone new to live TV. Blogs immediately jumped to Slate's defense, but apparently the alarm was unnecessary. She's not getting fired, there won't be a fine since it was after 10 p.m., and Lorne Michaels supposedly isn't upset. Plus, I'd be willing to bet Miss Slate won't be making that mistake again.

In other SNL news, the show's longest running cast member's name — Darrell Hammond — was missing from the opening credits Saturday night. As recently as last week a rep for the show said he would be back in some capacity, but despite his appearance on Thursday's Weekend Update, he wasn't in any of the skits on Saturday. He's been on the show for 14 seasons and accounts for some of the cornerstone imitations — Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and my personal favorite, Sean Connery. Between the loss of Hammond and no more Tina Fey as Sarah Palin or Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton, there's a bit of a gaping hole in SNL's political satire.

So, what did you think of the season opener? There are some exciting hosts coming our way, but the premiere was a bit lackluster for me. Do you think Jenny Slate should face any sort of punishment for her slip up, or is it all much ado about nothing?

"Sean Connery" on Jeopardy: You May Not Survive the Laughing

In addition to doing a mean impersonation of former prez Bill Clinton, Darrell Hammond does a hilarious Sean Connery.

In addition to doing a mean impersonation of former prez Bill Clinton, Darrell Hammond does a hilarious Sean Connery. What could make it funnier? Make him a contestant on Jeopardy who can't play for shite, but who loves to mock Alex Trebek. (This is the first time I've heard someone call someone else a "brigand" as an insult!) It's comedy genius. Just ask CasaSugar who said to me, "I have to stop watching cuz I'm almost puking." Almost puking from laughter! Now that's an endorsement.

Bee Movie Brings Its Buzzzz to NYC

Jerry, Chris, Renee and Matthew premiered Bee Movie in NYC last night.

Jerry, Chris, Renee and Matthew premiered Bee Movie in NYC last night. Little James Wilkie missed the showing, but Tina Fey and Darrell Hammond's kids were there for the fun. Gotta love that Jerry wore his Bee tie for the event, but it's not much of a surprise considering the promotional work he's been doing for the movie. Have you seen NBeeC recently? Jerry's self-acknowledging plugging is a bit much. I'm still excited to see the movie, just saying. Meanwhile, Renee can rock her short hair, but right now she is just...not. Jerry recently talked about the experience of getting into animation. He said it's "playing with toys, except you're a grown-up, and there's millions of dollars at stake." With the star power (and bank accounts) behind this one, methinks there won't be any painful stings. Groan.

NBC Comedy-ers Answer The Really Tough Questions

As you know Buzz is covering the Summer TCAs to report the latest network news as they promote their fall programming.

As you know Buzz is covering the Summer TCAs to report the latest network news as they promote their fall programming. Pop came along for the NBC ride and boy am I glad to be here. The network announced lots of great news (Welcome back Jerry Seinfeld), launching more online content a la Heroes and live chatting during your favorite shows. Here are some highlights so far from a Pop point of view:

  • Andy Samberg totally dodging the dating Natalie Portman question with this response: "pretty much every host that comes to the show, we all sleep with, so it's written into the contract when you get there --- so by those standards, yes"
  • Scrubs Exec-Producer, Bill Lawrence joking that the highly anticipated remake of Fletch won't happen since "Neither Zach or John would star in it, so i was screwed." He then shifted back the topic to TV but we're still holding out for that movie to make it on the big screen.
  • Tina Fey admitting that of NBC's two backstage life at a sketch comedy series, she had no doubt hers would be the one to last. Studio 60 is gone but Tina said she knew "100 percent" that her show would survive. She said, "I have a nasty SNL competitive streak in me, so I'm going to say 150 percent."
  • Adorable cardigan wearing John Krasinski feeling a blow to the ego as exec producer Greg Daniels admits that the Pam and Jim story line is a "B plot." At that point, John joked and stood up and said, "good night" to the crowd but lucky for us he did not actually leave.
  • Other observations: Jason Lee was practically mute (boo); Tina Fey is getting prettier everyday; Zach Braff is cuter in person while Andy Samberg needs a new hoodie.
