It's Here! Donatella Versace and Jonathan Anderson Present the New Versus

You can't say Donatella Versace doesn't know how to throw a party.

You can't say Donatella Versace doesn't know how to throw a party. Last night, she and designer Jonathan Anderson took over the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City to present the new Versus Versace and JW Anderson's first capsule collection for the brand.

But this wasn't just any product launch. Versace managed to fill the space with everyone from industry insiders like Leigh Lezark, Eniko Mihalik, and Harriet Mays Powell, but she also drew stars like Heidi Klum, Darren Criss, and Taylor Momsen.

All of them assembled around a big black box in the middle of the room. When illuminated, the box was revealed to be a backstage area enclosed by translucent panels of plastic. From there, models walked down runways on either side of the space before performances by musicians Angel Haze, Dead Sara, and Grimes.

And while no one walked away with pieces from the collection, guests did get a special treat at the end of the party: a parcel of differently flavored doughnut holes served as the goody bag.

A look at all the pieces that came down the runway, plus a few snaps from the party, here in the gallery.

The Versus Versace Party Draws an A-List Crowd — Who's Best Dressed?

When Donatella Versace throws a party, a star-studded crowd will attend.

When Donatella Versace throws a party, a star-studded crowd will attend. Case in point: the designer heralded a new era of Versus Versace and debuted JW Anderson's first capsule collection for the brand last night, and to celebrate, Jaime King, Hayden Panettiere, and Heidi Klum dressed up for the occasion. While both Panettiere and Klum selected dresses from Versace's Spring '13 collection, King took the head-to-toe Versus route. And in doing so, the Hart of Dixie star showed off a much more edged-up, safety-pin-included look. Three different plays on evening glamour (with an apropos Versace rocker-girl twist) and only one can be named "best dressed." Vote for your favorite below!

Who Wants to Hang Out With Donatella Versace?

On Tuesday, virtually everyone with an Internet connection and a Google+ account will be able to hang out with Donatella Versace.

On Tuesday, virtually everyone with an Internet connection and a Google+ account will be able to hang out with Donatella Versace.

The designer, who will celebrate the launch of her first Versus capsule collection in New York on Wednesday, will give her fans a first look at the clothes during a Google+ Hangout that will start tomorrow at 4 p.m. EDT. In a video teasing the virtual event, Versace explained that she chose the occasion for her first Google+ Hangout because she wants "everybody to be a part of the process."

Fashion blogger Jay Strut will play host, and the brand promises that "influential bloggers and models from around the world" will also take to their webcams to participate in the online talk. Versace will unveil the full collection — created with the young British label J.W. Anderson — at a party in New York on Wednesday night.

Versace Fall 2013 Runway

Donatella Versace's punk-rock Fall '13 could safely supply the fashion set with a number of appropriately themed gowns for this year's Met Gala.
Versace Runway | Fashion Week Fall 2013 Photos

Donatella Versace's punk-rock Fall '13 could safely supply the fashion set with a number of appropriately themed gowns for this year's Met Gala. It could also easily (and further) incite homage to '90s-era grunge from the street-style crowd with its nostalgic references — chains, nails, studs, and spikes as choice accessories for the season. While Donatella never shies away from the subversive or the sexy, this is clearly some tougher stuff. Click through for a look at the full collection now.

Atelier Versace Spring 2013

For her Spring 2013 Couture collection, Donatella Versace imposed the high-impact codes of her house — bright colors, intricate appliques, lots of skin — on strong-shouldered suits, slinky gowns, and minidresses whose hems started at mid-thigh but ended up skimming the floor.

But for all the body-conscious and curve-hugging pieces she sent down the runway (staged underneath the glass dome of the old Paris bank Le Centorial), this offering had a surprising amount of geometry in it. Kristen McMenamy opened the show in a black suit with gold pinstripes, and that linear motif was repeated elsewhere in the collection with pleated skirts, the parallel lines of quilting on a few leather motorcycle jackets, and the slim strokes of fur sewn onto a vest and a denim minidress decorated with bits of metal.

Other embellishments here included oversize crystals tucked just inside those many pleats, and neon leather tubing used to give a little structure and a lot of edge to some of the simpler dresses Versace showed. But even those dresses were fitted with pieces of mesh that showed off their wearer's legs and thighs.

Donatella Versace Doesn't Mind If People Call Her Designs "Tacky"

Donatella Versace isn't concerned with critics who call her clothing tacky, so long as they're calling it something in the first place.

Donatella Versace isn't concerned with critics who call her clothing tacky, so long as they're calling it something in the first place.

"First of all, any reaction is a good thing," said the designer in an interview with Susanna Lau of Style Bubble. "The people who struggle are those who have no reaction at all. They are too safe. Tacky — never mind. What is tacky? What is chic?"

And while critics didn't call Versace's Spring 2013 collection tacky or chic, they didn't give it negative reviews either. Tim Blanks of Style.com said the dresses "had the carefree sensuality of festival gear," and Cathy Horyn of The New York Times called Versace's theme of lightness "an interesting idea."

    Versus Spring 2013 | Runway

If you're going to have a fashion show on a Friday night, you might as well make it a party — and you might as well offer up clothing made for a rollicking good time.

With a glowing neon runway and a live performance by Beth Ditto — complete with backup dancers — the vibe was certainly in place. And though the first looks out the gate — zippered blazers, miniskirts, and flippy little dresses in vivid dahlia pink — were certainly hot enough to ignite a little flame, it wasn't until the bold intarsia knits, flower power prints, and Twister dot motifs appeared that the fun really began. In Lego hues, with clubby '60s silhouettes, and adorned with oversized plastic chains, they made for quite the joyous display — and proved that Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace definitely know how to keep a mood light.
