Donatella Versace Relaunching Versus, Christopher Kane Along for the Ride

>> It's well-known that Donatella Versace looks at Christopher Kane as a protege — he worked on Atelier Versace, consulted on Versace accessories, and many expect him to one day take Donatella's place.

He's been out on his own for a few years now doing his own thing, but in honor of the relaunch of Versus, which returns with clothing in 2010, Kane is designing a capsule collection of Versus bags and shoes to be shown this weekend.  Word leaked from the Versace camp today, and it was confirmed by Kane's PR — Donatella is expected to make the official announcement this weekend.

Spring 2009 Atelier Versace: Red Carpet Ruffles and Whorls

>> Chanel and Dior may go full-out with couture presentations, but Donatella Versace prefers to do private appointments in January for Atelier Versace.  A gown from her pleat-centric Fall 2008 collection made it to the Oscars on Marisa Tomei last weekend, and now that that's over, it's time for the big reveal: Spring 2009.  The collection, modeled by Georgina Stojiljkovic, who seems to be Donatella's favorite couture model, focuses on ruffled red carpet-ready gowns, with a couple of whorled cut-out confections thrown in for good measure.  Sketches included.

Kate Moss

Happy 35th, Kate Moss!

>> Last year, Kate Moss tried to ring in 34 by partying one hour for every year since her birth — she only made it 18, but she did it in starry Chanel, no less.  This year it's all about the big 3-5, which marks twenty years since her first modeling job for The Face; Kate's supposed to celebrate all weekend, with the big house party tonight involving a pig on a spit, but we're celebrating with a look back at old-school Kate — think the glorious '90s.*image: source, source

Diane Von Furstenberg

Henry Holland Does Designer Tees — Literally

>> Henry Holland first burst onto the scene back in 2006 when he got Giles Deacon to wear a t-shirt that read "UHU Gareth Pugh" for his runway bow — Gareth reciprocated soon after by wearing Holland's "Get Your Freak on Giles Deacon" shirt.

In the time since, fashion iconograhy has proliferated on t-shirts.  Deer Dana launched tees with cartoon renderings of Hamish Bowles, Andre Leon Talley, and Agyness Deyn, and just last week, Diane von Furstenberg graphic designer Chris Sauve launched the "Save Anna" graphic campaign — "take this graphic and make a t-shirt" — after rumors of Wintour's demise.

Holland is finally switching it up from the trademark slogan tees; He's done cartoon renderings of nude John Galliano, Donatella Versace, Karl Lagerfeld, and of course close friend Agyness Deyn — with flowers appropriately placed, Karl's a Chanel camellia.  There are more designers involved — Luella Bartley included — and all approved Henry's graphics, which are going on t-shirts, to arrive in stores next year.

Fab Flash: Donatella Versace, Philanthropist

Besides being one of the biggest fashion designers in the world, Donatella Versace is also a philanthropist.

Besides being one of the biggest fashion designers in the world, Donatella Versace is also a philanthropist. After seeing the damage caused by the Sichuan earthquake, the designer decided to take matters into her own hands. In a recent visit to the city of Sanjiang, Versace saw the travesty that killed over 70,000 people back in May. “When you see things on television, you don’t know if it’s true,” said Versace. “I wanted to see it with my eyes and touch it myself.”

Anna Wintour Makes It Back for A Night of Stars

>> After missing out on the Chanel Mobile Art opening and the Versace-hosted Whitney gala earlier this week, Anna Wintour was back in fine form — with Karl Lagerfeld at her side and Chanel on her person — at the Fashion Group International's Night of Stars last night.  It was a night of family — Donatella Versace picked up the Superstar Award as Allegra Beck Versace looked on, Franca Sozzani was honored with her son Francesco Carrozzini in attendance — and friends — honorees Christopher Bailey and Francisco Costa brought Kate Bosworth and Ashley Olsen, respectively.  Host Simon Doonan kept it light, at one point joking that Carla Sozzani had to make it back to the Marriott Marquis in time for a speed-dating session.*image: source, source

Michael Kors

>> INSIDER WIRE —Donatella Versace has joined the legions of Gossip Girl fans; Since the show doesn't air in Italy, she has the DVDs sent over her way: "I love all the styling, all the clothes and how bitchy they are."  She even mentioned her willingness to do a cameo on the show — producers, are you listening?  Michael Kors did it, so why not Donatella?

Battle of the Versace: Ricci vs. Versace

It's one thing to battle it out with other gorgeous women in one of the sexiest designers of today.

It's one thing to battle it out with other gorgeous women in one of the sexiest designers of today. It's another to battle it out with the woman who designed said sexy clothes. Leave it to vixen Christina Ricci to wear an embellished body-hugging atelier Versace to the Whitney Museum American Art Gala. However, Donatella herself wore a slippery, shiny floor-grazing gown — also nice and tight. As well, these dresses are sultry neutrals. Who rules her Versace here?
