What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

Holiday weekends mean extra time to cozy up around a fireplace, and what better way to spice up downtime than with some new DVDs?

Holiday weekends mean extra time to cozy up around a fireplace, and what better way to spice up downtime than with some new DVDs? This week brings a bunch of new crowd-pleasers, so you're sure to find something for everyone.

Eat Pray Love
Julia Roberts stars in the big screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling travel memoir of the same name. Determined to find herself after two breakups, Liz sets out on a journey to Italy, India, and Indonesia, where she engages in the activities outlined in the film's title. The film has its slower moments, but it's worth it for the gorgeous landscapes and supporting performances from James Franco and Javier Bardem. DVD extras include a director's cut and some featurettes.

The Expendables
Sylvester Stallone directed and stars in this high-octane action flick about a band of mercenaries who head to South Africa to try to stage a coup d'etat of the country's leader. The beefed-up cast includes Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Mickey Rourke. This isn't the thought-provoking film of the year, but the sheer novelty of seeing all these action stars in one place is where the entertainment value lies. DVD bonus features featurettes, a behind-the-scenes look, and the stars' panel at Comic-Con.

Javier Bardem joined his Eat Pray Love costar Julia Roberts last night for a screening of their movie during the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Javier Bardem joined his Eat Pray Love costar Julia Roberts last night for a screening of their movie during the San Sebastian Film Festival. They're in Spain after a stay in Italy, where they posed for photos together in Rome. Javier followed up the event with dinner alongside his mother, Pilar, and today was back with a seriously leggy Julia for the photo call. The Bardems have reason to celebrate as their family gets bigger — Javier and his wife, Penelope Cruz, recently confirmed they're expecting their first child! Javier was quiet about their news in his recent Esquire interview, but he finally broke his silence in a weekend press conference. When asked about becoming a dad, Javier said, "It is true. I am very happy." He also added that he and Penelope have yet to decide on a name.

Javier Bardem and Julia Roberts teamed up for a photo call at the Rome premiere of Eat Pray Love today with their costar Richard Jenkins. Javier is back to work after having downtime to focus on exciting developments in his personal life — he and Penelope Cruz just confirmed that she's expecting! It will be the first child for the couple, who tied the knot in the Bahamas in July. The jet-setting pair have been inseparable during her breaks from shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this Summer. She headed back to the set this week, though, and Javier returned to the press circuit. His first stop was Canada for the Toronto Film Festival to promote Biutiful, a movie he hopes will bring people to tears.

A Healthy Bite: Mandy Ingber

"Yoga can seem intimidating, or unexciting to some, but these days there is a yoga style for everyone.

"Yoga can seem intimidating, or unexciting to some, but these days there is a yoga style for everyone. Frankly, you can bring a yogic mentality to any activity. You can bring attention, awareness and intention to running or indoor cycling or hiking. So if the traditional Hatha yoga is not for you, maybe bringing more of yourself into your run is your yoga."

— Mandy Ingber on the wide reach of yoga. Mandy also shares with Fit Celeb that the film Eat Pray Love is bringing yoga into the lives of an even wider community.

After two weeks at the top of the box office, Stallone and the boys of The Expendables proved to be no match for the new movie releases. The Last Exorcism took over the No. 1 spot with $21.3 million, narrowly beating Takers, which came in second with $21 million.

With those two films earning the majority of ticket sales, The Expendables fell to third with $9.5 million, followed by Eat Pray Love which slipped to No. 4 with $7 million. The Other Guys finished out the top five with $6.6 million.

Despite a whole crop of new movies opening in theaters last Friday, The Expendables managed to hang onto the box office crown, taking in another $16.5 million. Hot on its trail was Twilight spoof Vampires Suck, which raked in $12.2 million despite abysmal reviews.

Eat Pray Love was knocked down to third with $12 million, followed by Bow Wow's comedy, Lottery Ticket, which opened with $11.1 million. The Other Guys hung on to a top five slot with $10.1 million, just barely knocking out Piranha 3D which made $10 million.

As for the other box office newbies? Nanny McPhee Returns only made $8.3 million, but it still did better than The Switch, which settled for a disappointing $8.1 million.

Cacio e Pepe Pasta: A Must-Add to Your Recipe Arsenal

Since it seems that lately everyone — including Julia Roberts herself!

Since it seems that lately everyone — including Julia Roberts herself! — has been talking about memorable food from the filming of Eat Pray Love, I've got oodles of al dente noodles on the brain, and it reminded me that I've yet to share with you my favorite Italian pasta to make at home.

I like to think of cacio e pepe (Italian for "cheese and pepper") as the Rome's cosmopolitan version of mac and cheese. It's a simple recipe that requires nothing more than spaghetti, cheese, butter, and seasonings. It's ready in a matter of minutes — and always gone even faster than that. For this reason, cacio e pepe is one of the most valued dishes in my weeknight recipe arsenal. Want a plate of this now? Then keep reading.
