SAG Winners Bring Their Smiles, Statues to the Press Room

The big winners at Saturday's SAG Awards headed into the press room after picking up their statues. Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey were both recognized for their work in 30 Rock, while Christina Hendricks and the cast of Mad Men spoke to the press without Jon Hamm, who was onstage presenting. Diane Kruger and her Inglourious Basterds boys were so excited after their win for Best Ensemble Cast, telling us they texted Brad Pitt to share the good news. Drew Barrymore was likewise thrilled with her latest honor, after picking up a Golden Globe the week before for Grey Gardens.

Jane Lynch lead the cast of Glee, as her costars Dianna Argon, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, and Jessalyn Gilsig clutched their Actor statues. Crazy Heart's Jeff Bridges sweetly brought his wife onto the press room podium to have her answer questions beside him, crediting her with his success and the raising of their three daughters. Mo'Nique was also thankful to her husband in her remarks following her win for Precious, saying that they get their emotions out during special "bathroom talks." Kevin Bacon had nothing but glowing words for his own wife, Kyra Sedgwick, after a visibly emotional acceptance speech onstage. Sandra Bullock stuck with the theme after already thanking her "hot" husband Jesse James, admitting she'd rather attend events for his work any day over awards shows. There was a whole lot of love coming from the winners — make sure to check out all the night's honorees!

The Inglourious Basterds Winners Keep Brad in the Loop

The cast of Inglourious Basterds took home the Best Ensemble Cast at this evening's SAGs, and they were soon off for a pit stop in the press room.

The cast of Inglourious Basterds took home the Best Ensemble Cast at this evening's SAGs, and they were soon off for a pit stop in the press room. Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz, BJ Novak, Omar Doom, Jacky Ido and Eli Roth were there to talk about their latest honor, though their costar Brad Pitt skipped out on the event. They did, apparently, make sure to keep him in the loop. They said:

  • Christoph on if they told Brad Pitt about the win: "We all did!"
  • BJ on what Brad responded: "LOL, he said."
  • Eli on how they'll celebrate tonight: "We were celebrating while we were shooting, celebrating at the table, and the celebration will continue tonight!"
  • Diane on working with so many guys: "The best part about my role is that I really kick ass. I'm tougher than most guys really — well maybe not Christoph!"
  • Eli on working with Quentin Tarantino: "You just clear your schedule and make yourself available. . . any of us would be honored to work with him again."
  • Diane on her dress: "It's Jason Wu — we created it together."

The Weinsteins Have Almost Nine at Their Globes Party

The Weinstein Company's Golden Globes party was a hot ticket last night, bringing out actors and actress from many of the firm's films.

The Weinstein Company's Golden Globes party was a hot ticket last night, bringing out actors and actress from many of the firm's films. Inglourious Basterds was well-represented by Best Supporting Actor Christoph Waltz and Diane Kruger, who cozied up to director Quentin Tarantino. Their costar B.J. Novak, meanwhile, chatted the evening away with his The Office pal Mindy Kaling. Kate Hudson was there to represent the ladies of Nine along with Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard. Up in the Air's Anna Kendrick made the rounds near fellow Twilighter Taylor Lautner, who got some special treatment in a room of VIPs — a brunette friend apparently fed him by spoon, though it wasn't his Olive Garden companion Sara Hicks.

Fergie took a break from her Nine ladies to pose for photos with husband Josh Duhamel, as they enjoyed a so-called date night. Another star of the musical, Nicole Kidman, was similarly accompanied by her husband Keith Urban. Carey Mulligan didn't have Shia LaBeouf by her side, but she did see to have made a new friend in Tom Ford. The Weinstein bash competed against other afterparties like InStyle's, but access was limited — apparently, try as she might, Kate Bosworth couldn't get in.

Critics' Choice Awards Make Friday Fun and Glamorous in LA

One of the busiest weekends of award season got underway last night with the star-studded Critics' Choice event.

One of the busiest weekends of award season got underway last night with the star-studded Critics' Choice event. Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard were both among Fab's best dressed in their light hues while Anna Kendrick and Sandra Bullock were stunning in black Ellie Saab and Alberta Ferretti respectively. Weigh in on all the night's fashion and beauty with Fab and Bella's love it or hate it polls. While the actors and actresses posed down below, Nick Jonas and The Administration played from the Hollywood Palladium's roof. Everyone was eager to gush about their competition at the awards, though Josh Duhamel might have been a little disappointed to find out the person he was most excited to see — which he joked to us was "Robert Pattinson!" — wasn't among the guests. The whole evening was abuzz with the season's excitement as every winner seems to predict what's to come from the future shows.

The show itself was fun and sweet including a heartfelt tribute to John Hughes complete with Amy Poehler and John Krasinski dressed up as classic Pretty in Pink characters. There were, of course, some serious moments as well as actors like Tobey Maguire spoke about what everyone can do to help the situation in Haiti. Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock shared the title of Best Actress, and after Sandra planted a kiss on Meryl on stage, the two came back to the press room where they gushed about each other. Sandra declined to answer what she has donated to Haiti, though the news of the generous $1 million to Doctors Without Borders came out anyway. The cast of The Hangover also kept the audience laughing, while Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon both melted our hearts by gushing about their wives. The night's big champion was The Hurt Locker — check out all the winners here. Most of you are excited for all the fashion at all the shows, but there's also still time to fill out your Golden Globes Ballot before tomorrow!

After their fun onstage moments at the People's Choice Awards, the evening's winners headed into the press room to pose with and chat about their newly-won statues. Buzz was there covering the scene, where Mariah Carey opened up about her work in Precious and a possible biopic. Hugh Jackman also shared his advice for Oscar hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin while Sandra Bullock discussed her pre-awards show routine. Jessica Alba and Ashton Kutcher stayed together to celebrate his web celeb win, as Diane Kruger got cozy with her Inglourious Basterds guys BJ Novak and Eli Roth. Taylor Swift kissed the latest statue to add to her rapidly growing collection.

Mariah brought Nick Cannon along to hit the portrait studio, wrapping up another exciting if less champagne-filled night. The casts of House and Glee each crowded together for group shots. The other winners also stopped by to ham it up for the cameras in some of the night's cutest photos. Eli Roth Says Part of the Basterds Prequel Is Already Done

Inglourious Basterds hits theaters tomorrow, and a couple weekends ago I attended the press junket to hear from a few of the film's stars.

Inglourious Basterds hits theaters tomorrow, and a couple weekends ago I attended the press junket to hear from a few of the film's stars. Yesterday we shared BJ Novak's interview, and now here's more from Eli Roth. His experience was unique coming to the movie as a friend of Quentin Tarantino's and an accomplished director in his own right. Roth tried his hand at acting, but he also got behind the camera to direct movie-within-a-movie Nation's Pride, which is a Nazi propaganda film that plays an integral role in Basterds. Here's some of what Eli had to say:

  • On a possible prequel: When Quentin writes, he knows every character in this movie, so he might do the Inglourius Basterds prequel — he’s got most of it written. Brad and I were always like "Prequel! Prequel! Prequel!" So we filmed [my character's backstory], but Quentin said, "I gotta tell you, I love those scenes, but you have the coolest entrance in the movie and it’s just taking away from it." And I was like "Well I don’t want to ruin the grand entrance." He’s like "You have Brad Pitt AND Hitler introducing you! So, you’re set up pretty good in this movie." He says he already has three scenes from the prequel done already. So we may see them someday.
  • On making the movie as a Jewish actor: I think the death of a lot of these WWII movies is that they get so caught up in the details of being so reverential and precious to the subject matter that they don’t realize how absurd it is to have British people running concentration camps with those accents. There are people speaking in English in these "historically accurate movies." I’m like, what the f*** was that? When my relatives were getting killed I don’t think they heard any English. It’s also important to remember what happened and to make sure it never happens again. It should upset us. If I saw a a swastika and I wasn’t upset that’s where there is a problem. When you go on a set and you know it’s a movie, it’s not like driving through a neighborhood and seeing a swastika painted. That’s where I get really upset. But I will say this, the first time I showed Nation’s Pride to 300 Nazi extras, even though they were in character, my stomach turned. I looked at Quentin and was like, "Oh my god, what have I done? I’ve started the fourth Reich and they're going to make me their Sarah Palin."

Diane Kruger joined her Inglourious Basterds costars Eli Roth and Melanie Laurent last night for a Q&A session at NYC's Museum of Jewish Heritage. The film's director, Quentin Tarantino, was also on hand, but Brad Pitt skipped out on the event despite having been in the city the evening before for The Time Traveler's Wife premiere. Diane recently opened up about the lengths she went to in order to nab her part in the film, and she's still putting in the effort when it comes to promoting their finished product.

Brad and Angelina Lead the Inglourious Afterpartying

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie hit the red carpet at last night's LA premiere of Inglourious Basterds, and the fun-loving cast kept the good times rolling with a bash at the Mondrian Hotel afterward. Diane Kruger's main man Joshua Jackson is up in Vancouver, but she mingled with Harvey Weinstein as BJ Novak chatted with Mindy Kaling and Melanie Laurent. Eli Roth struck a pose with Angelina, who was part of the festivities after missing out on the cast's recent party in Berlin. She and Brad make time for one-on-one date nights, but they also clearly enjoying letting loose with co-workers and friends.
